Put simply, you get out what you put in at UAA. If you're self-motivated enough to search out research opportunities and extra-curricular work then you will succeed here. For me, UAA was my choice because of the cost. You simply cannot beat it, and if you put in the work here then you should have no problem getting into a prestigious graduate school, if you so choose. Anchorage is a great little city with good bars and a clean downtown area. The winters are dark and cold but that shouldn't stop people from enjoying the snow. The people that don't like it up here just sit in there rooms all winter. The only reason I would go to a different university is because no one up here really supports the sports programs.
