This experience at an HBCU has been absolutelyDec 07 2015Social Work
This experience at an HBCU has been absolutely horrible. As previous commenters has made, the administration seems to be inept, uncaring and self absorbed because of their position. There are VERY few professors that I can honestly say tried to help. They have no problem taking a students money, send emails about everything except the most important things a grad student needs to be informed about. If you find an HBCU that is better, you might want to RUN away from this horrible university. By the way, I am a graduate of UAB which is held to a much higher standard than this sub par institution. I only attended because it was more convenient for my work schedule.
No one ever helpsJun 20 2012Education
No one ever helps with anything you need help with. They only send you to the next person, just to be sent back. This University is a wreck, and I would give anything to have went somewhere else.
The administration of theFeb 07 2011Social Work
The administration of the AAMU is horrible. I have had difficulties from the application process to currently with trying to find information and access departments. While the staff and faculty are helpful, they all seem a bit misguided and do not have a clue as to where a student should go.
I am a first year a graduate studentAug 19 2008Social Work
I am a first year a graduate student at A&M and I am pretty disappointed. I have had to take some requisite courses so I can give advice for both grad and undergrad experiences.

Undergrad student body are misguided and would rather dance and socialize then study. Grad students are angry and defensive.

Undergrad and grad staff are helpful but unfortunately most departments have lowered the bar in terms of academics so they don't expect much from students.Administrative staff in patton hall are absolutely horrible and could less about students. My best advice to new students is become a survivor! Do your financial aid the first day and do wait because they will drop your classes out of the system. Do not bother trying to do things over the phone. This is not a normal university and you have to do everything in person. A&M is a below average HBCU and that fact is ingrained within the community, until that changes the school will continue to lag behind. Academically sound students need to be their own advocates.
