I have to agree with most other reviewsBrightCriminal
I have to agree with most other reviews here. I've been very happy at JSU. It's not a fancy campus, and I expect the endowment and funding is low. But the people make it great. It is challenging, and I'm getting a better education for a better price than more "prestigious" mega-universities. Great quality of life, smaller classes, not too many really poor professors. There's always exceptions, but there's more to JSU than initially meets the eye.

Question
I was shocked at how hard it wasQuite BrightCommunications
I was shocked at how hard it was going to be here. There's a high dropout rate, but I think it's more because students can't finance it, even with affordable tuition. Many that go here are not from well-to-do families, and some are on things like Pell, loans, etc. And some come here thinking it will be an easy degree.

I've worked harder than I ever thought I would. Most of the teachers are fantastic- there are a few that are either nasty, or just not good at what they do. I guess that's anywhere. But here, they are really the friendliest campus like they advertise. We're losing our president this year, too so I don't know how that will change the personality of JSU. I don't know why so many students don't stick around on weekends. There's lots to do, even with a run down town around us. Football has been really good the past few years, and the band is amazing.

Question
I have been very surprised by the valueQuite BrightCommunications
I have been very surprised by the value and quality of education I'm getting at JSU. It's harder than I thought it would be, but teachers are willing for the most part to take the extra time to help you. I've had a couple of really bad teachers here, but most are pretty great. ]]

Football has gotten very good here, and the southerners are the best anywhere. A lot of students go home on weekends and I don't understand why- lots to get involved in here.

Campus cops are the worst- very rude and all they care about is writing parking tickets. The food isn't too bad. The dorms are so-so. The newer stadium tower is a good place to live. Off-campus housing is just okay. Most apartments are pretty run down. The campus needs lots of renovations and new construction. But the quality of education I'm getting far outweighs the lack of new shiny buildings for me anyway. I made a good choice coming to JSU.
