Oakwood U. is an HBCU, pretty campus, settled in Huntsville, AL. It can be a bit of a boring city and school, however the people make it worthwhile. Because it is a small campus, for some it can be more intimate where as others might feel suffocated.
The curriculum is NOT challenging, unless you are a Biology, Nursing, Engineering major, ect.
The Communications department is understaffed and underfunded.
Because we are a SDA institution, the Greek life on campus is virtually nonexistent. Unless you count the "fake" or non-Divine 9 sororities and frats.
All in all, Oakwood is what you make it. The spiritual environment is great, its fairly easy to meet and make lifelong friends.
I give it a C for effort.

Oakwood College is a Christian school. The teachers treat you as family. They invite you to their homes and look out for your well-being. Parents trust the school, and alumni send their children to this campus.

If you are a weak student, I would suggest (1) seeking help from the professors by asking questions,(2)purchasing a subject outline book, (3)seeking a study partner, (4) obtaining a copy of someone else's notes, (5) having a schedule, (6) and being focused. To succeed, one must be disciplined.

Oakwood is similar to many other colleges/universities in that there are both good and bad sides to the coin. If you go to the school get your work done, study, and get involved in any of the many campus groups there you will have the best time of your life. You may even get to travel the world. However if you gravitate to those who are not about getting there education but see college as a big partying experience then your time at Oakwood will be spent upset and the rules and requirements. A point of advice Oakwood is not the most organized of colleges so my piece of advice is this, get everything from anybody in writing with a signature and hold on to all pieces of information. That way if there are any discrepancies you can refer them to a legitimate piece of information (never go on word of mouth alone).
Your professors at Oakwood are accessible. In my two departments Biology and Education I could walk in at almost any time and get a chance to speak with a professor. At Oakwood it is not uncommon for a professor to invite a class to their house for dinner.
The student life at Oakwood is great. The student association (USM) tries to plan activities for almost every week or every other week. There are also many student organizations you can get involved in NAPS, VOT, Aeolians, Mkononia, OBMA and many more. Because Oakwood is world renown you will get a chance to met and socialize with people from all parts of the world (Sudan, Ethiopia, London, Haiti, Jamaica, Zimbabwe, and much much more.
The food at Oakwood does seem to take time to get used to, for some people. The vegetarian cuisine is not familiar to most and thus requires time for acclimation again I say for some people. The cafeteria is the social scene for Oakwood, it is a common place for people to come, eat and have fun.
The campus is beautiful during the fall, spring, and summer times. It is primarily surrounded by open fields and a small forest which is connected with a rock quarry, which is an enjoyable hiking experience for most students.
All in all I say I loved my time at Oakwood and would not want to ever exchange that. If someone goes to Oakwood try not to dwell on the negatives that you find there just enjoy the positives.
Faculty Accessibility: A+, Useful Schoolwork: B
