| I transferred to UAH after hearing about how great of a school it is and how much help they provide students through PASS and GTAs, but let me be the first to say how much of a lie that is. The Biology department is awful. Anatomy & Physiology was a 300 level course when it is a 1 or 2 hundred level at almost every other University & College. It has recently been demoted to a 200 level course due to the large amount of FAILING students in this single course taught by ONE teacher. She was rude and more focused to her second job and the research she was required to complete by the University. The PASS leaders I had during my time here were GREAT, I seriously would have not passes any of my classes here if not for them. However, everyone does not get assigned a great PASS leader and so they do not do so well in the class. UAH IS A RESEARCH SCHOOL!!! Almost all of the teachers and faulty are required to participate in some form of research and the amount they are required to complete increases significantly by their rank in their department. Beware of the teachers who have favorites!!! Many teachers do not use the blackboard service "Angel" as the are supposed to and they will not calculate your grades until the end of the semester, by which time they have lost a grade or too. Rate my professor web sites are your best friend, register early so you can get into the best classes with the GOOD teachers. Dorm life is improving, but slowly due to a large decrease in oncampus enrollment the Housing portion of UAH is suffering so I guess they are starting to get the point. Lots of programs and event for freshmen to become integrated into college society but none for transfer or nontraditional students. This being a school that is made up of a majority of transfer students, they sure do not cater to us in any way. The Student government Ass. is a joke but ACE is the way to go. I truly believe ACE should replace student government because they have more programs, relate better with students, and are a better force on campus. |
The Nursing program here accepts a min of 3.0 GPA for acceptance into the Upper Division program, however they really only accept any and all gpa's above a 3.8. Very competitive when the only accept about 100 to 150 a semester.
The University also neglects to tell you that when you transfer over you begin a like a freshmen you current GPA is a 0.00 to them, it doesn't matter where you came from or what your GPA was there it no longer exists. For Nursing students you have 2 gpa's, one for UAH and the 2nd is a combined of what ever else you have.
Activities planned through out the year to give students something to do whether its academic or leisure, Awesome ideas!!
The camus is buitful and If you walk it is easy to navigate, if you drive beware the police on campus are all also Huntsville city police. They give tickets to everyone now (Students/&non-students). No where is safe!!!! But the police force on campus is strict and strong so I'll pay my $50 standard parking violation so I can continue to feel safe on campus, they ticket bikes now too. Dining Options are great for normal people but for use real student who study our brains out till the crack of dawn, there is nothing for us, so stoke up your fridge from the on-campus convenience store before 8pm.
Amenities for students are awesome. There are SO MANY places offered to study quietly and comfortably other than the library its like a studiers' paradise!! The lounge area with Starbucks in the library has been remodeled so its so much cooler and have become more of the place to be so if it gets too loud you can just take the stairs to one of the upper levels or reserve a study lounge. Study lounges can also be found on each floor of every dorm, except SECH, for those who need to leave their suite. ALL dorms except SECH require you UAH smart id in order to gain entrance, each font desk is occupied 24hrs a day most are students and friendly and wont mind you hanging out with them for a few. Madison Hall is full of all the help you could ever get. I'm not saying that all the help is great but that's where you would go to find it. Ask a friend about tutors before you pick one. They may or may not of had the same instructor you had and at UAH that makes all the difference because none of your professors will be on the same page.
