 | Quite Bright | I am disappointed with the University of Alabama. However, I will note that it is my fault for going there sight unseen. I accepted to go there simply for my full scholarship, and that it was closer to home(VA) than other places that had offered me the same. It was my first trip into the DEEP South... I had no idea racism was such a big problem still. The total culture shock hits me with a bag a bricks everywhere I go. Discrimination is OK among much of the student body. Girls don't go to college to learn; they go to find husbands. The Greek system is fueled by socially retarded men and women. The entire situation is very frustrating. Make sure to check it out very well before attending. | Education Quality: A+, Surrounding City: F | | | |

| | Quite Bright | Alabama itself is a pretty southern state, however the University here in Tuscaloosa is full of southern gentlemen and sweet southern attitudes. Coming from out of state, not knowing anyone here was a difficult decision. Upon my first arrival to this campus, I absolutley fell in love with the beautiful campus, it is by far the prettiest campus in the SEC. Then, walking around on campus, it was like there was something in the air. Everyone was smiling, in a good mood, or said "hi" to you. The faculty here is always open to talk to or is always willing to help you. Weather here is perfect, you get a little bit of all the seasons. One thing that you need to know before attending is that although you may be foiled by the acceptance GPA and other concerning factors, be aware that the curriculumn here is very intensive and goes in depth. I had no problem getting in to UA with their requirements, however depending on your choice of study here do not expect the work here to be easy. The friends that I have made here i already know will last a lifetime, faculty, girlfriends, guyfriends, and sorority sisters all. Once starting here, you will feel like it is a home away from home and you have a whole new family here. Attending The University of Alabama has definatley been one of the better choices in my life, and I would never change or transfer schools. | Education Quality: A+, Collaboration/Competitive: A- | | | |

| | Average | | I am a non-Greek finishing my Junior year here at Alabama. I understand some of the "anti-Greek" or "you have to be Greek to have a life" comments made here. In fact I had the same attitude until about half way through my first semester on campus. But I have been here three years now, and for the past year have been dating a great girl who happens to be in a sorority. The fact is that when I first came here, I would let the fact that a girl was in a Greek organization influence my thinking, and would not try to get to know her. After a couple of months, I realized that was just stupid and started treating folks in my classes who were in fraternities and sororities just like I would treat anyone else. Did I meet some who were snobbish and snotty? Sure I did. But in three years I have met a few snobs who have never been near a Greek house, too. I ended up getting along fine with the vast majority of the Greek students I met... and last year, met a wonderful girl, really hit it off with her, and we are still dating. And,yes, she and her sorority sisters get along just fine with my friends who are independents.Give people - and yourself - a chance. This can be a really fun place to go to school. | Useful Schoolwork: A, Scholastic Success: C+ | | | |
