| Quite Bright | They waste money on frivolous things while allowing the classrooms and buildings to fall apart and cutting corners on funding for academics. The athletic programs are probably the biggest waste of money. Most of the instructors who make a career at ASU are about as lively and helpful as rocks, and there are never enough instructors or classrooms. Some people are nearly crucified for minor infractions while others are allowed to do as they please. The financial aid office is understaffed, and the few workers they do have are completely incompetent. Forms are lost, information is entered incorrectly... The courses are about as challenging as kindergarten. I've kept my GPA near a 4.0 with little effort. Don't expect much competition. Most students just take their C's and go on their merry way. The campus bookstore is a joke. You'll pay much more for your text, and it probably will NOT be the correct one. For this irritation, you'll stand in line for about 2 hours to buy them - another 2 hour to exchange them for the correct one. Parking is a nightmare and expensive. The campus cops are more interested in handing out parking fines than preventing any real crime, of which there IS plenty. Bottom line - there are much better universities for about the same cost or a little more. Go ANYWHERE but Arkansas State University. | Scholastic Success: B-, Faculty Accessibility: F | | | |

| Super Brilliant |
I am a few weeks from graduation, and looking back at my time spent at ASU, I have learned so much. Having only lived in northeast Arkansas for about 10 years, I thought going to school a few miles down the road would be just like high school, and for a while it was. After commuting my first semester, I transfered to another school. It wasn't until then that I realized that ASU wasn't that bad. In fact, I really missed it. I moved back and lived in the dorms and made several great friends.
Arkansas State is very much into the Greek system, but it is also possible to have a social life and not be Greek. The campus is very laid-back and there are lots of different types of people. The downside of that is there seems to be a strong division between blacks and whites. Some of the infrastructure needs to be rebuilt, but they are working on that. A lot of students complained about fees and tuition but honestly, it's no more expensive than any other school. Sure, you have your fair share of rednecks and apathetic students. Arkansas can seem boring if you come from a larger city; no school is perfect, but if you are hard-driving and have a desire to excel, you can use this to your advantage. Lots of opportunities with little competition are available for students if they just look for them.
I myself have been very impressed by the faculty. As a marketing major, I have never had problems accessing any professors and they are all very encouraging and willing to help. In fact, students who drop by during office hours to talk about the class, their grades, or to ask for help usually do the best. The majority of professors are PhD's who have had experience in the business world; thus, they are able to relay their experiences to students. I feel like I have gotten a solid business education and am ready for the "real" world. I highly recommend ASU to students who can overlook its faults and dig deep to find the gems that will unlock the door to your success. | Faculty Accessibility: A+, Collaboration/Competitive: C+ | | | |

| Bright | Arkansas State University although close, does not provide the education for the money that you spend. ASU spends too much time and money in the athletic department. Nothing against the athletes, but I think that if they would drop down from Division 1A into a division they could compete in they could draw larger crowds and win more games! AND MOST IMPORTANT would not have to charge their students so much to support ASU Athletics. There is a reason why ASU is the ONLY 4 YEAR INSTITUTION in the state of Arkansas to lose students this past year.....maybe it is because they are so much higher in tuition and fees. University of Arkansas is cheaper, and they have twice the students and an athletic department that supports itself. | Perceived Campus Safety: A, Education Quality: F | | | |
