| Quite Bright | This school seems to challenge many in this program. Students entering seem to have an excellent imagination, believing that this is a rockstar job; it is, only if you're good, real good. Expect to work, unless your high school was like climbing the kiddy rock face. If you considered high school a treadmill, look elsewhere, this school might see you to your end (patience and financially). You can do exceedingly well and be rewarded for it, but don't expect this to be a glamorous job like the olden days. (How many Aerospace Engineers do you know..., any coming to mind, well there are thousands in the field.) Seriously, if building planes/spacecraft is what you think will make you happy, this is the place for you. People routinely leave here at breaks waiting to come back, the town might suck and sometimes you might be board, but there is no place like Embry-Riddle. ERAU Prescott is not a bad University. I came in wanting to fly, soon enough I figured out that I did not want a degree that was limiting. In short I thought I was sure of what I wanted out of a degree, I ended up wanting to do something more broad. ERAU does not have any General degrees, so if you're unsure at all about the degree selection here DO NOT COME. ERAU is top-notch in the fields of study it offers, thus it is very challenging and cutthroat in some areas. Engineers plan on doing A LOT of work. GSIS not so much, a few professors give some b.s. writing assignments but otherwise it's not to hard. Pilots, you will know soon enough if you really want to fly.
ERAU does not like to advertise the attrition rate, you either succeed or you're going to wash out. AFROTC is big on campus. The cadre consists of some very great and bright people, as well as many tool bags.
Socially Riddle is terrible. Greek life has its moments. For the most part the few fraternities and sororities on campus are a joke. With few other social opportunities going Greek is a great decision. It is not a typical greek system like bigger colleges. The surrounding town has little to offer. It consists of mostly old people, very few college aged persons. The male to female ratio is horrible, you will see some "decent" girls get treated like super models. Many girls quickly get passed around and STD laden. Average girls will quickly become overconfident, stuck up, and snooty. Most guys will get "Riddle Vision" and their standards will fall off a cliff. A good portion of riddle students are nerdy never leave the dorm types. It is in some sense a school for "nerds." Don't come here to party, you won't find to much here anyways. Greek parties are about all there is, most of those parties are very exclusive.
I hate to say it but 3/4's of the student body is extremely self-interested and arrogant. It's not confined to any one major really, Riddle seems to nurture people with the attitude of "my shit don't stink." Many of the flight instructors and members of the flight dept. are egomaniacs. If you can't tolerate arrogant pricks don't come here.
A lot of the faculty is very helpful and friendly. There are a few bad apples. Otherwise the faculty will go out of their way to help you. I can't really speak for much of the Engineering dept's professors, I did not major in Engineering. My decision to transfer out was based on the fact that I discovered I did not want a career in what my highly specialized major was setting me up for. If you're unsure, or don't have a real reason to come here DON'T. Riddle is good if you REALLY want to do what the majors here set you up for. If you do want to transfer out be prepared for a good amount of your credits not transferring. It works the same way when transferring in, Riddle wants your money. If you are seeking a more broad, traditional college experience look elsewhere. If you know for a fact that you want a career in one of the major fields of study Riddle might be the place for you. Tough it out, get in and get out. Just remember that Embry Riddle is a highly artificial environment that does not closely resemble the real world. If you love your major you will love it here, otherwise it will be a very unforgiving environment. | Perceived Campus Safety: A+, Collaboration/Competitive: F

| Bright | Although there are some things about this school that can be seen as a negative, I am loving every minute here. The facilities are very nice, and the people are also very nice. Despite being in a very conservative town, the people at the University are generally very understanding, and accomodating. The housing is pretty nice, and there are amazing clubs to do. I am a part of Hang Gliding, and RXP/DSLC(Developing Space Launch Capability). There are also a lot of cultural opportunities here, albeit not as much as at my high school, in Tacoma, WA, but there are a lot of international students. | Education Quality: A+, Surrounding City: D | | | |

| Quite Bright |
I graduated in 2002. I flight instructed for a year. I was then hired by ExpressJet in late 2003. I was recently hired by jetBlue as a first officer. I was able to attain this job as a result of making great friends while in school. My biggest advice is to make connections! ERAU is great for that. You WILL NEED THEM if you want to advance quickly.
I must say that the flight department needs work. As I understand it, the quality has only gone downhill since I had been there. I majored in Aeronautical Science (AS). In contrast, I would have majored in ASP and had done flight training elsewhere (most likely NorthAire and SkySchool). The airlines do not care where you do your flight training at!
What I dislked most about the school was the professionalism that much of the flight instructor staff exhibited. Many were solely employed to gain hours and take students "to the cleaners."
On the otherhand, the Aeronautical Science Department is top-notch! I particularly remember Professors Cone and Draut as conducting the best classes! There are many others in the department who are great.
Humanities department was also great. Math and physics... not so much (hopefully they've changed professors for those classes).
In summary, consider whether or not you want to fly at Riddle. The program is not for everyone. It wasn't for me either, but I stuck it out (at a great price).
However, whether AS or ASP, the quality is dependent on what you get out of it. For example, my friend who walked my resume into jetBlue was an ASP major who flight instructed all throughout his four years. He did not do flight training at Riddle.
The remainder of my friends studied AS (Aeronautical Science). All of them currently fly for the regional airlines (4 at ExpressJet, 1 at American Eagle, 1 at SkyWest). One has quit from ExpressJet due to medical reasons. He know longer flies (take care of you health and hold on to that medical!).
The Aerospace Engineering program is also great. All of my closest Engineering friends have attained positions at Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Bell/Textron, and one at NASA.
Take care! And fly Safe! AND NETWORK! MAKE FRIENDS! AND KEEP THEM SO THAT YOU CAN HAVE THEM WALK YOUR RESUME IN! | Starting Job: Airline Pilot, Preparedness: A+, Reputation: A+
