| Quite Bright | I attended HTI in Sacramento in the spring of '05. I can honestly say the only 2 prerequisites for admissions are a pulse and the ability to pay. Judging by the caliber of my classmates, if I needed a surgical procedure done I would not want any of them within 100 miles of the OR. The didactic portion was a complete joke. Basically a manual with very little clinical insight. Our instructor was merely going through the motions. Labs were mainly run by the students who had been there at least 6 months and there was no method to their madness. Instructors geared their attention to those students who needed to have their "cases" signed off so they could graduate. Very little attention or critique was given by the instructors during lab hours other than doing mock "procedures." Even after doing a "case" the instructor had to move on to the next student because of being under a time crunch. I could only take it 2 1/2 months and quit. I saw the writing on the wall very quickly and later enrolled in a scrub tech program at a CAAHEP accredited junior college and earned an A.A.S. degree for about 1/3 of the cost. RUN, do not walk away from HTI. Based on my experience at HTI I would counsel whomever is considering enrolling at HTI for surgical technology to look at another school. To sit for the CST exam you must be enrolled in a CAAHEP accredited program. I'm sure the tuition has increased, but there has probably been no adjustment to their curriculum and methodology. | Friendliness: D-, Education Quality: F | | | |

I attended anthem college-high tech institute from July 06 to Feb 08. The first few months weren't too bad even though they changed my student adviser like 3 times. After that I got a full time job that was extremely time consuming and my grades started to slip, once I quit my job, my grades went up. According to Matthew Ketcham, I guess he's the Student Services Adviser, I was on academic probation from Oct 07.
Well the last student adviser I had she informed me that I WOULD be placed on academic probation if I failed the current class I was taking. I emailed Mr. Ketcham back about they can terminate my education because I was fed up with the school. I never received any emails, phone calls, or letters saying I was on academic probation and all the student advisers I had, they never informed me. I'm sure it was in my student handbook, but I moved from California to Indiana and the last thing on my mind was making sure I had the handbook..I mean it's ridiculous!
I asked what would happen to the remaining money that I borrowed from Sallie Mae and if it was possible for them to send that money back to Sallie Mae or send it to me so I can send it to Sallie Mae myself. I also asked about sending the books I had that were in perfect condition, and guess what?! The guy NEVER emailed me back!!!! I was very upset after not hearing anything for a week so I called the financial aid services and the girl I spoke to told me that they weren't going to send the remaining money back to Sallie Mae or me, and when I asked what was going to happen to it she goes, "Oh, we're going to keep it." I was extremely upset and asked to speak to a manager, she transferred me to one and I left her a message saying I needed to speak to her about the remaining money on my loan. Guess what!? She never called me back! No surprise there. So I left several messages to different Financial Aid managers with no responses. I even recently called them back after giving up for 4 months and I still have not got a return call. I've already contacted an attorney about this and I even talked to Sallie Mae, since I have fallen on a hardship and they informed me that no school is supposed to keep any remaining money if a student is no longer taking courses. So I have an appt tomorrow with a lawyer on what to do with this situation. I WOULD NOT recommend this school to anyone at all! They are all liars, frauds, and only want to take your money! The courses are ridiculous and they did not help with getting a degree in Medical Billing/Coding. I was signed up with at least 10 classes to take and only 3 of them had anything to do with Medical Billing/Coding. The rest were about psychology, sociology and creative writing which have nothing to do with my choice of degree. If anyone has been ripped off by this company, I would love to get a statement from you so I can let my attorney know and maybe we can find some justice against this awful place they like to call a school. | | | | |

| Quite Bright | HTI/Anthem College is terrible!! I started at HTI and switched to Anthem and both are such a waste of money. The teachers never return my emails or calls. The college online system is ALWAYS down but due dates never change and the content is awful. Much of the online content has typos and incorrect information and feel slapped together. I brought this to a teachers attention and he told me I might as well go somewhere else if I don't like it. I was in digital design program and none of the teachers act like they know what they are talking about and thats after I switched out of Medical Billing and coding for the same reason!! I jus wasted $30,000 :( | Friendliness: D+, Education Quality: F | | | |

| Bright | I am attending Anthem College Online. I thought that I made a good decision when choosing this school. I am in my fourth class, and I am highly irritated to say the least. I am trying to attain an Associate's Degree in Medical Billing & Coding. Our courses are only 4 weeks long, and then we have 1 week off. I do not feel like I am learning anything. The instructor's SUCK!!!! I feel like I have made a horrible mistake that I can not get out of. I am stuck with this shitty school until I graduate. I have had to chase everyone down and get nasty with them in order to get help from them. Everytime I ask someone who should know what the hell is going on, they tell me they do not know and they transfer me to someone else who does the same crap. I do not feel that this school is worth $23,000 for a degree. You are left at home stressing out because the instructor's make our homework more difficult than it has to be! Our homework and exams are open book, and I swear I really believe the instructor's try to trick you when you are trying to give the correct answer. Unless you have an online buddy who has passed the class, you won't do so hot!God forbid that you might ask one of the instructor's for their help. They act like you have NO right to ask them. When they do reply, it's a smart ass answer and most of the time they never answer your question to begin with. I hate this school and I wish I had never joined. Now, I have found out that this school is on probation because the accredidation people are finding this school not qualified to be accredited! These assholes do not tell us this when we are deciding on joining their school. If they had of told me this back in June, I would have went elsewhere! There isn't much I can do except continue to attend, and hope that things work out for myself and the other students. As of today, I have a 4.0 GPA and I work hard to keep my grades up. I do not have the luxury that most students have. I work full-time and I am attending full-time classes. My parent's are not paying for this, the gov't won't help with any of the tuition, and I am not able to stay at home while attending school. It's hard on all of the student's at this school. Most of them that I talk to feel the same way. Something should be done, but what can you do? In a way, I hope this school loses it's accredidation once and for all. That way future student's will be spared the nightmare of what I have been going through. My only advice to other student's is to PLEASE look elsewhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This school is a rip off if I have ever seen one!!! | Friendliness: C, Education Quality: F | | | |
