Not so bright
I enrolled with U of P in March of 2007 after much over the top persueding from the counselor who contacted me. To start with, she would not accept the fact that I didn't have to start right away. She pushed through the paperwork for financial aid so that I could start classes in about 10 days. I was told that aid had been approved and everything was covered with the aid. I decided about 2 weeks in to class that I did not want to continue with them. I did not like their format of teaching, nor did I agree with the pressure of constantly attending class. I then informed not only my councelor of this, but my financial aid rep as well. I did state that I would finish the 2 courses I was taking, but asked to be withdrawn from the school afterwards. I finished the classes, received an A, and thought the withdrawl from the school was going to be taken care of. I notified the financial rep again that I wished to withdraw. Nearly 2 months later, I have not received the excess financial aid funds that I was told I had and would be getting. Thus, I called U of P and the results have been a nightmare. I still have not been withdrawn from the school, depsite numerous phone calls as well as emails. Now, the school claims to hagve sent back half of my financial aid to the lender it came from. I contacted the lender, to be told that they had not recieved this money. The school said the Department of Education told them to send the money back, but cannot send me proof of this. The Department of Education said they had nothing to do with it and that it is between the lender and the school. So now U of P is trying to tell me that I owe them over $700 for classes, when they are the ones that sent the money back after the class was paid for in full. Not only that, but U of P did not cancel my 2nd disbursement from financial aid, and therefore I cannot get any aid from the school that I was hoping to attend in a few months.
Due to the lack of action on the part of U of P, as well as them sending the money back to the lender for no valid reason, I may have to pay in full to U of P (which I cannot afford to do), or have them turn it over to a collection agency and have a black mark on my credit.
In my research, I have found that I am not the only one to be scammed by the University of Phoenix. I feel that others need to be aware of the practices of this school so that they do not suffer the same headaches that I am going through.

Every school is going to have their issues, since I have attended 4 colleges in my education, I would have to say that UOP was the most challenging and beneficial to me. When I attended a traditional college the instructors and school could care less if I showed or passed, here I actually have people who bother to ask what is going on and remind me about the consequences of missing class or doing badly. I have people to contact directly with questions that I have, there have been times when it was delayed, but still responded.

My advice to others is that if you don't like how it works, then go and do what works. No other college worked to make me responsible for myself and others like UOP and I did have my share of challenging classes, but there were some easier ones - and any school would have that. All colleges are essentially the same in education, it's the execution and treatment that makes the difference.

In addition to Univ. of Phoenix being regionally accredited by the same commission that accredits top tier niversities, Univ. of Phoniex unlike most if not all adult oriented non so-called traditional colleges and universities has the elite business program accreditation by The Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs. This creditation alone sets Univ. of Phoenix apart from many colleges and universities that do not have business program ccreditation rather by ACBSP or AACSB.

Reflecting back on my experience at Univ. of Phoenix, I must say I am pleased. One year later after receiving my MBA in Healthcare Managmenet, I am still able to grow and interact professionaly in matters dealing with healthcare as it relates to business management of the healthcae facility and its human resources. Many of the things I have learned at Univ. of Phoenix have carried me a long way and enabled me to bridge that knowledge to areas thst are even more beneficial in the healthcare industry. Not many colleges offerred an affordable and convenient MBA Healthcare Program such as Univ. of Phoenix. Therefore, I am grateful and pleased that I chose this school for my advanced education.
