I have attended two online Universities. First, University of Phoenix and then AIU. American InterContinental University is a very good program. Not only did I have an opportunity for asynchronous classes at my own schedule, but class lectures were given synchronously with live class discussion boards. Can't make it? No problem. They were recorded and you can download when convenient. Online universities are much tougher than traditional colleges. There is more reading and writing that is needed to be done and you don't have access to the instructor on a daily basis via face to face to feed you the answers. It definitely incorporates Bloom's Taxonomy Teaching Model which means you have to work hard! Know that up front and you will be mentally prepared. I am glad for that otherwise my degree would have no value in the market which many students do not understand when they compare to other University's traditional or e-Learning programs who simply hands out an A as long as you pay for the course. I never experienced any negative tactics in marketing or admissions. Did they ask if I wanted to do additional minors, etc. Yes, but I declined and that was the end. Any online program is expensive because you are paying for the convenience and the technology. I have recommended this University to many professionals who have all had positive experiences as well and many have been promoted or received increases and other incentives upon completion. In my opinion, this is a very good University.

First and foremost, AIU has its negatives and positives. For instance, a positive may be some of the professors--such as Dr. Dennis Morrison, Paul Sabolic, Shirley Chuo, Barbara Son, and Lou Versace. The educators named above are mentors and have an increadible talent to teach, motivate, and simply help as much as possible. They are mentors who will assist you in learning and in life-They are the reason I am greatful to have attended this school. Furthermore, the social life is fantastic, people are friendly and sweet-I've met life long friends in attending this school. However, I will advise a school with more prestige because no employer ever knows who or what is AIU-except that it comes out on commercials! If your not accepted into a "great" school then my only suggestion is to at least try to obtain classes with the teachers listed above.

Super Brilliant
The virtual campus allows you to network based on several clubs like the single parent's club, military club, management club, entrepenuer's club, poetry club and many others. The campus is as safe of an environment as it gets because it is located in your own home. Everyone I have delbt with are very professional including the other students;many of which actually work in this field already(just like myself) but are just looking to legitimize their credentials with a degree. I have tried many times in the past to get my degree but being in the military made it hard. I had a ton of credits but never could seem to be able to stay in one place long enough to get the degree completed...until now. I consider the education that I received here to be world class. My financial management professor had actually was a financial analyst for the largest banking institution in the world and hasd lots of insight that really helped to guide me. One of my professors also teaches at Yale. In fact, many of my teachers taught at other big name universities. The big thing is that because of AIU I was able to complete the degree program that has enabled me the opportunity to grow in my career. I can hold my head high now because I am proud of this achievment. I rank it as one of my top 3 achievments in my life just behind finding my spouse and bringing my children into this world. I highly reccoment the school to anyone. I will say though that if you are looking for an academically easy method of obtaining your degree; keep looking. Academically, this has been extremely rigorous and challenging...but very much worth it.

AIU was a nightmare for me! First I will say the learning enviorment was great, I loved most of the instructors and the classroom environment. I feel however that to my admissions councilor I was just a number. I graduated AIU and completed my AA in Business Admin with honors, afterwards my councilor urged me to continue my education towards my bachelors. I had been making a monthly student arrangement for the AA (which I was still paying on) and the BA program would increase the payment I could barely handle to begin with. I told my advisor that I think I should wait and pay off the rest off the AA before I begin any new programs. He told me the importance of continuing and told me to let him speak with financial aid. Upon calling me back he said that financial aid would be alright with me making partial payments (aiu students never listen to that!) and that it would take me longer to pay off but I could continue attending classes and there would be no late fees. So I agreed that I could deal with that and began the BA program. Part way through financial aid calls and says I am falling behind on payments, I explained what my advisor had informed me and they said that I may have had a "miscommunication". Well at that point I could not afford it to begin with and that had not changed, paying for things my children need come 1st! AIU froze me from classes, sent me a letter demanding the remaining 2,000 dollars I owe them or the will report to creditors. I feel betrayed by the counsilor (who when I asked to speak with "no longer works there") and taken advantage of. I would never recommend this school all I have to show are student loans now coming due and harassing phone calls on a daily basis for the money I can not pay yet (young family with 3 kids). I have started a new school and will work on getting my credits from AIU released but, I am going elsewhere and I hope none of you experience this horror story.
