The CIIS PsyD Program boasts an inclusive, diverse, transpersonal approach to psychology. Prospective students should know the strengths and weaknesses.

Weaknesses: VERY little funding, lack of mentorship, faculty are too busy and seem overworked, diversity and inclusion has been poor but getting better, faculty can be very defensive, disorganized with policies and poor enforcement, APA accreditation, authoritarian decision making, not student-centered at all!

Strengths: Program attracts eclectic and interesting students, program is striving to make improvements, opportunity to take interesting electives, great cafe, San Francisco, encouragement to do non-traditional research and use diverse methodologies (i.e. qualitative).

Unfortunately, the program doesn't really walk the talk. Lots of egos and not so much compassion. Don't get swept up by the 7 ideals of the Institute, they don't accurately reflect the program. Still a good option for those looking for non-traditional education, but ASK A LOT OF QUESTIONS!!!! I have been surprisingly disappointed on many occasions. If I could go back in time, I would go somewhere else.
