I just finished my fall quarter of myBrightAnimal Studies
I just finished my fall quarter of my third year at poly and I must say that I love it. SLO is an amazing area, there's so much to do and see in the surrounding town, plus great places are not too much of a drive away. This last quarter alone I played polo in LA, went to Lake Tahoe and ran a half marathon in Las Vegas. You're in an amazing region of the country - be sure to take advantage of all that it has to offer.

I've loved my experience as an animal science major. Poly is all about hands-on and I've had some amazing opportunities to do things I would've never thought possible: castrating piglets, pregnancy checking dairy cows, collecting stallions, vaccinations, and dissections. Poly really prepares you for vet school if that is something you're interested in, it has a great reputation.

Social life is what you make of it. I don't really drink so it wasn't my scene, but you can pretty much find a party off-campus thurs-sun every week.

The campus is beautiful and easily walkable. Also, pretty hilly, so a great work it. The rec center is currently getting redone and will be finished in 2013 - supposed to be incredible, so you incoming freshman are lucking out.I highly recommend poly to anyone!

Cal Poly is great for engineering.Quite BrightCivil Engineering
Cal Poly is great for engineering. It's very reputable among california businesses who love to hire its students, however I don't know if this stands true for businesses on the east coast. There's a lot to do around San Luis Obispo, but you have to like the out-doors. Surfing, rock-climbing, hiking, volleyball, etc. The bars downtown are also pretty fun.

Question
All of the classes are supposed to beQuite BrightOther
All of the classes are supposed to be taught by professors and 99% of them are. This is very nice because you have teachers who know their field teaching all of the courses.

However this also leads to the problem that the school requires every teacher to teach a lower division course every year. Many teachers, especially when teaching support courses, act as if the class is a waist of their time. Most treat the students as nuisances and some are outright hostile. Since support courses are 40-60% of your classes any given quarter this can lead to a very bad atmosphere. On the plus side, when professors teach the upper division courses they really enjoy them.
