This school is not that great. The reputation is overhyped and all it does is get you into the job market. But what kind of job is what I ask. The ad dept is very easy to get into, i got in with 3.0 and 1240 sat. Changing majors is not that hard except for arch and acrh Engineering.

Cal Poly is a great place to spend your undergraduate school years. The surrounding town of San Luis Obispo is beautiful and, despite its size of just 44,000 people, there are plenty of interesting things to do. Several beaches are just a short drive or bike ride away, and the surrounding mountains offer great outdoor adventures. Downtown San Luis Obispo offers an unrivaled farmers market every Thursday, and coffee houses, vintage clothing stores, funky restaurants, and used bookstores line the streets. There has been an influx of higher end retail, and fancy restaurants and bars, so if your taste is disciminating, you will not be let down. One unfortunte consequence of living in such a desirable place is the unavailability of afforable housing. For second, and third year students, with little rental history, it is especially difficult to find a place to live that is not inhospitable without having to spend upwards of $600 a month for your own room, or $900 for a studio.

Cal Poly is a great place to get an education. The 'learn by doing' experience ensures that you will be the first one hired after graduating, just because you know how to do the work, not just because you have read about it. The teachers are great, the other students are friendly, and...it's California, which means two things- the area is beautiful, and the girls are hot. There is a great social life in the city and around the campus. Overall, the reputation is unbeatable.

Please, please, please do not come here if you want to major in a humanities or social science field. Just look at the name, "Polytechnic" means "multiple sciences". Cal Poly is great for engineering, computer science, biology and the like, but the humanities and soc sci depts. are TERRIBLE and the profs in those depts. are second rate. The campus is beautiful, the school has a good rep, and there's a lot of things I love about Poly, I just wouldn't come here again. Go to UCSB if you want a B.A.
