I went to Cal poly for Gen Engineering for 2 and a half years. I really have nothing to show for my time there besides lots of math and science academic course credit.

Coming from northern California, I consider this college just "okay" in every aspect. The parties were entirely greek dominated. The people are either douchey or conceited girls who seek out the douche's approval. I most of the people that I considered to be my friends quickly became acquantices and I ended up with maybe one or two close friends from the time I was there.

I was only somewhat sure that I wanted to do engineering. I thought of myself as creative and curious person that excelled in school but what I quickly learned was that these things mean very little when pretty much everything I did was evaluated with a test, and I mean everything. Go to this school if you are mature and know exactly what you want to study. I was way too curious about the world around me to tolerate putting my head down and assuming a submissive position while they did u know what.

For what its worth, the school is in beautiful location and the girls are fucking gorgeous. Id say that this school is better to transfer into once you are 21 and can go down town. Otherwise you will be subject to joining a fraternity or becoming marginalized in a superficial and domineering socal mindset of a school.

I mountainbiking here is decent, not the greatest, not the worst. Surfing is good really only in fall.

Im looking at switching to UCSC. From what I gather they have people that are actually interested in life. The Mountainbiking and the surfing are world class. The girls might have a bit of pit hair, but I think i can manage.:)

I'm absolutely DISMAYED. Newsweek Magazine ranked my beloved Cal Poly as one of the LEAST RIGOROUS colleges in the nation. How can this be !!! This must be a mistake and got us confused with Cal Poly Pomona. I admit, some classes are not very demanding. Overall, my college rocks - great party scene, nice looking chicks, easy going professors and recruiters waiting to lick by boots. Cal Poly has it all.

The engineering department at Cal Poly is topnotch. I love the "hands on" education you receive here. Course work is not easy, but students here are very bright and there is lots of camradarie in the different departments. The town and beach nearby are also major pluses.
