The school is great. I love SLO, there is plenty to do and being in a college town where the town revolves around the school is awesome. My departments facilities are brand new and most of my classrooms are nice. Most teachers are friendly and approachable, only a few teachers have been complete dick holes.

The only thing I would change about Cal Poly is making it a bigger sport school. Most of the teams are sub par and the students don't show much support.

I just finished my fall quarter of my third year at poly and I must say that I love it. SLO is an amazing area, there's so much to do and see in the surrounding town, plus great places are not too much of a drive away. This last quarter alone I played polo in LA, went to Lake Tahoe and ran a half marathon in Las Vegas. You're in an amazing region of the country - be sure to take advantage of all that it has to offer.

I've loved my experience as an animal science major. Poly is all about hands-on and I've had some amazing opportunities to do things I would've never thought possible: castrating piglets, pregnancy checking dairy cows, collecting stallions, vaccinations, and dissections. Poly really prepares you for vet school if that is something you're interested in, it has a great reputation.

Social life is what you make of it. I don't really drink so it wasn't my scene, but you can pretty much find a party off-campus thurs-sun every week.

The campus is beautiful and easily walkable. Also, pretty hilly, so a great work it. The rec center is currently getting redone and will be finished in 2013 - supposed to be incredible, so you incoming freshman are lucking out.I highly recommend poly to anyone!

Cal Poly is great for engineering. It's very reputable among california businesses who love to hire its students, however I don't know if this stands true for businesses on the east coast. There's a lot to do around San Luis Obispo, but you have to like the out-doors. Surfing, rock-climbing, hiking, volleyball, etc. The bars downtown are also pretty fun.
