Not so bright
This school is one of the best cal states out of the 23 campuses. the only thing i don't like is the buildings. they are CRAPY. some of the buildings are remodeled or updated will others, mainly the part of the campus near 7th street, have old, rusty windows and the inside needs to be remodeled. i swear some of the buildings make me feel like i'm back in high school. other than that it is a great school. good location, academics, diverse/good looking people.

This is my first semester here. Being a cal state I expected more resources and professionalism from the classes but it turned out to quite the opposite. A particular class I took has deterred me now toward electrical engineering. First of all the class lecture/lab was being shared with another class at the same time and sometimes you had two lectures going on at once. Secondly the class didn't teach what the course catalog described it would and made no connection to computers ("Principles of Computer engineering"). Third, none of the students seem to understand proper safety practices when dealing with electrical circuits and components. This is a serious issue especially since the first lab had us converting computer power supplies and of course a couple of times there were firecracker pops that startled everyone. This was done to provide each student with a lab power supply for the semester (lack of resources). Fourthly (being experienced with electrical circuits) there was too broad a range of material trying to be taught in such a short period of time, material that would have been taught equivalently over 2 or 3 EE classes. All in all I would recommend taking the equivalent EE clases if you want to learn the material it tries to teach and if they keep up with the lack safety demands with regard to lab projects they're likely to draw legal actions upon themselves eventually.

I love CSULB. I think most people have a problem with the lack of social interaction they experience, but that all depends on your major. Most programs are impacted and that makes it hard to socialize with people. I'm having a great time and I am able to socialize with many people. Also, I love the fact that I will not be in debt by the time I graduate.
