Great school, quality of professors depends on your department. There are some really amazing professors here, and some really bad ones. Most classes are a bit crowded nowadays due to budget cuts, which is my only real complaint. Some buildings are a little on the old side (LA buildings for one) but overall the atmosphere is good, and there's a lot to do both on and off campus.

This school could be great for the right kind of person. The academics are very good, and the school provides lots of support for students to ensure that they sign up for the right classes and are doing well. If you are a bubbly person who likes to party and go to the beach, this school would probably be amazing. I'm not, so I'm transferring, but I still think this place is a really good school. Don't worry that the academics are not up to snuff, they are one of the best aspects of the school in my opinion. However, if you are not the right kind of person for this school, you will be miserable. I'm kind of a shut in, more quiet person who would rather go to coffee shops than play beer pong, so this place just wasn't for me. It isn't a bad school, it just wasn't the right fit. Just know what you are getting into before you come here. If you are a beach person, you will love it. If you aren't, you're probably going to be lonely and not like it as much.

I was forced to go to this university by my parents since its 5 miles down the street. Beautiful campus. Some really good professors. Not too many challenging courses. 96% of people commute. Most of them live at home, hence no social life. I am an incredibly social person and coming to this university seemed like a great opportunity to meet different people. I did meet and get to know a lot of people but if they are not in your classes, 97% of the time youll never see them ever again and almost 99% of the time, you wont hang out with your classmates outside of school. Parties, really lame. Fraternity parties, I am not a girl so unless I am not a member, I wont be let in. No team spirit. Too many people, sthe resources are strecthed too thin. But it has recently become one of the most competetive universities to get into. For fall 2008, out of 48000 freshman applications, only 5700 acceptance letters were sent out. Definitely go to this university if you live on campus. if not, then.....

Although its a CSU and it has a lower rep than UC's, do not come to CSULB thinking you can just have fun the whole time, and not do any studying. CSULB is not like any other CSU, we are at a UC level. Classes are hard, requires a lot of study time, yet you will have so much fun being here. People are down to earth, there is always something going on campus it's so much fun here, but don't forget its a University and must be taken seriously.
