| Quite Bright | I had a pretty good experience at De Anza. I transferred there after having a pretty negative experience at a UC school. I only ever had one teacher at De Anza who really didn't deserve to be a teacher, the rest of them were all well qualified, and easily approachable. I found the best teachers using Rate My Professors, it really helped me avoid overly difficult classes and horrible teachers. The campus is nice for a community college. They just got finish remodeling the campus center and have a brand new food court and indoor seating area. Since De Anza is a community college there isn't a whole lot of interraction with other students, as everybody is busy with their life outside of school, and the people you get to know in your classes you tend to never see again. The maturity level of my classmates was always really good, definitely a step up from high school despite what people say about community college being just like high school. Most of the unmotivated students tend to drop within the first couple of weeks. Parking can be really difficult, but I was always able to find parking in the Flint Center parking garage when worse came to worse. My one complaint about the school was the counselors tended not to know what they were talking about-I could talk to three different counselors, ask the same questions, and get completley different answers. Overall...good community college, one of the highest ranked in the state, prepared me for a CSU and UC education, and saved me a lot of money. If you aren't quite ready to move away from home, or if you are worried about your finances, community college is the way to go-it is completley different from high school-much much better. | Preparedness: B, Reputation: A | | |

| Not so bright |
De Anza has amazing and often over qualified teachers. I believe the teachers have a huge impact on a student's college experience. Although this is only a junior college, I have received the best training, and when compared to 4-year universities, the quality of education and training is sometimes equal to, but often better at De Anza College. I have heard from many sources that this school is rated the best community college in the entire nation.
Another aspect which I highly appreciate is the amount of diversity on campus. I love it!And, it's a beautiful campus with lots of trees and an amazing enviromental department!!!!! However, there is one thing that I deem highly negative! That is the counseling and admissions department. I have no idea what credentials the counselors need to be hired, but from their performance, I would assume they barely received their GED. IT is really that bad! Most students leave the counseling department more confused and frustrated then when they entered. Counselors are preoccupied, extremely rude and completely ignorant to all aspects of their job. Every time I went in with a question the response was ALWAYS “I don’t know.†I truly believe a trained monkey would do a better job then the counselors at De Anza College, and they would be a lot nicer too! Also, the PE department….well I think you should just take a look at the recent rape of a 16 year old girl at the hands of the baseball team to get an idea what kind of barbarians occupy the testosterone reeking PE area. | Education Quality: A+, Individual Value: F

okay well I was actually going to go to a different university, but things got really complicated last minute with financial issues, and my parents made me go to this school because it was close to my home. This is one of the top JCs in the nation, and there's a high transfer rate if you go to this school. There are some good teachers here, but there are also some really bad ones too, like the ones I have right now.
So far, I expected to have a lot of work and to be busy all the time, but I haven't really experienced the difficulty just yet, but it could be because i've only gone through a couple terms.
There's no social life whatsoever, so screw starting over! It may not be so bad for some people but it is actually pretty difficult to approach others, especially if they are outside of your class/department.
Some teachers are not so good, they can be super biase, not too helpful, or pretty nice and willing to help you. Depends on what teachers you get and what departments you're in. People have their own little cliques too, and there are a lot of international students. There's a high chance of you transferring into a really good UC or CSU, as long as you work hard for it. It'll definitely pay off here... Oh yeah, this applies for all the community colleges usually, but the average amount spent here is about 3-3.5 years. if you want to transfer within 2 years, you better work your butt off. | Scholastic Success: B+, Social Life: D-
