In 2011 I entered TMC as a homeschooledQuite BrightMusic - Performance
In 2011 I entered TMC as a homeschooled freshman. My family lived in Virginia, and I only knew one person attending the school. I attended this school because I thought I liked the environment and the academics were challenging. If this is what you are looking for in a school TMC accomplishes this. The time I spent at Master's is largely overshadowed by legalism, cliques, and mixed messages from various faculty.

Legalism: Dress code(you pick, its 105 degrees and windy, jeans or a skirt?), No dancing(like seriously, its not allowed. ever. oh wait, if chapel arranges a flash mob its OK, but seriously, no dancing), church/chapel requirement(I enjoyed chapel, and do not regret any of the times I went, but attending chapel for 4.5-5 hrs/week adds up..)

Cliques: These exist everywhere. There are favorites in every dept, even music, but I was most hurt by the cliques in my own dorm. I wasn't included in a single dorm event until my second semester.

Mixed Messages: (Some faculty are GREAT! I love Abner Chou. If you attend TMC take every single class he teaches!)

I was promised a music scholarship in JAN by Dr. Opher, and told in May by the music dept. that he has no right to award scholarships and has done this to other students.

Favoritism among music professors is bad. Students are glorified or ignored based on their appearance and instructor rather than skill/ability.

Double standards for athletes vs. "normal" students are real.

TMC is just too narrow.Education
TMC is just too narrow. They have a self inflated view of what impact they are having in the Christian world. The students are narrow and many struggle with legalism. They width of your straps, workout cloths, etc. will all be examined. Rules are not clearly stated and then your RA or RD will put their spin on what the college is really trying to say. Don't be fooled they are very legalistic. Your better off going to a secular school with a strong Christian group where students really want to share Christ and be with other believers in the midst of secular college. At TMC it is just a bunch of rules that are placed on you to make you think you are spiritual...sound familiar?

TMC strengths are that it can help youEducation
TMC strengths are that it can help you grow spiritually. Especially if you have been in public school. The relationships that you can build with professors is unique. The school does have many weaknesses. It is incredibly narrow and self-righteous in many areas. The school does consider itself to be one of the only Christian schools that can give give you a Christian education. This self-righteous attitude has not changed in the last 20 years. Recently, I heard the president say that it was on the cutting edge in every area...this is a complete delusional comment. The school is behind in technology, their admission department is run by incompetent people and too many students work in key positions. This leads to incompetence, inexperience, and many errors. If the school wants to improve...which they don't because they operate from a world view that they are "cutting edge" then they will begin to hire competent adults in key positions. In addition, the school requires students to attend church services 2 times on Sundays (mornings and evenings)so that you can fill your head with lots of doctrine and not be out actually doing the call of Christianity. They do not consider attendance to a Sunday school class church attendance. So if you like attending a Sunday school class...plan on church 3 times every Sunday. That is absurd for a college student to be required to do.
