The best attribute that Pitzer has is its location in respect to skiing, hiking and Los Angeles. There is nothing to do in the immediate area surrounding Pitzer. The only good academic departments are the Psychology and Sociology department. The English department lacks good/permanent professors. There are alot of visiting professors, which is bad because they don't put thier all into the classes and it is difficult for the students to get to know them. As an english major I take most of my classes at Scripps and Pomona. The upside to this is a better education but then I find myself wondering why I didn't just go to Scripps or Pomona. Another thing that Pitzer probably won't tell you is that the housing is very poor. One cannot get a single until their junior year(unless they have a physical or psychologial ailment), and that isn't always gaurenteed. Also, if you visit Pitzer, note the location of the Student center, and realize that barely anyone uses it, which is important because the crappy student center takes away from any "college feeling" that Pitzer could of ever had.

Quite Bright
the students and faculty at pitzer are wonderful...if u r interested in the social sciences come to pitzer....if u r unsure come to pitzer because u get the chance to take classes at pomona college (good for humanities, economics and political studies), claremont mckenna college (good for business, econ, and poli sci), scripps college (womens studies, humanities, social sci), harvey mudd college (science and technology) or the joint science program for all the colleges (natural sciences)...the claremont colleges are a great way to get an education...pitzer offers students a lot of academic freedom in course selection and easy to know professors...u can go out to lunch with them and hang out with them around campus...pitzer is able to provide students with a good mixture of fun and work...there seem to be two kinds of pitzer students, the gross underachievers who party 6 days a week, but otherwise would be at their choice of schools, and the kids who try very hard to be in pitzer...all schools have a disparity like this of some kind, but pitzer seems more extreme...laziness (read exteme pot use) runs rampant here, but somehow everyone gets a good education...must be osmosis...the pitzer student body here has very liberal political viewpoints....nader would be president if this school had their way...if u think bush and reagan are bright dudes, be prepared for some hypocritical hippie discrimination against u....i always thought that liberals were supposed to be attentive to others viewpoints, but here we hate the conservatives...pomona and pitzer, the two more liberal colleges, have an academic and personal alliance...claremont mckenna is the lone standing republican college of the claremont colleges and the recipricate the feelings pomona-pitzer kids have for them with "puck fomona" t-shirts and pitzer hippie bashing...last week there was a hunger protest at pitrzer against the war and a pro-war burger eating festival at claremont mckenna...a bunch of pomona-pitzer kids went over there and drew peace signs on the claremont mckenna groups american flags....the joint athletics programs of pomona-pitzer and claremont mckenna/scripps/harvey mudd form a fun claremont colleges rivalry as well, although sports are not all that popular to most pitzer kids...there are many parties around, although administration is starting to at least weakly try to enforce legal drinking ages at pomona and pitzer colleges especially...major parties include the "bathroom party" held twice a year at pomona college...everyone at the bathroom party wear scandalous bedtime clothes or nothing at all...and there is drinking...just guess what this party turns into...on 4/20 we have a musical festival at pitzer called cahutech...if u r a prospective student, spend ur 4/20 at pitzer...if u dont understand the significance of 4/20 u would enjoy yourself at pitzer, but it may not be the best for you...george clinton was here last week...u need a car...LA is far away...ppl from the east coast especially dont realize that pitzer being 30 miles from LA isnt as close as u would think, it becomes a couple hour drive many times, and LA is the size of conneticut it seems...the town of claremont itself offers nothing...mexico is 2 hours away and vegas is 4...san fran is 8, u can get one way plane tickets for $29 plus taxes....u will make friends from the bay area at pitzer...if u r a fan of mind expanding drugs the desert is a popular destination...the facilities here suck...pitzer is in the process of redesigning the school for a good reason...the dorms have a hospital waiting room vibe to them...the rooms are big however...the dining hall here is horrid, but one gets the chance to eat at the other claremont colleges on their meal plan...this college is damn expensive...many of my friends here come from multimillion dollar or yale lawyer families...most of my friends are liberal, lazy, financially secure ppl who take a hedonistic view to life...the only school in the country i would rather be at than pitzer is possibly pomona college
