"State" is a pretty average university, I wouldn't really say that it's a great place, but it isn't too bad either. The business department at State is strong and has many emphases. The GE requirements are a bit redundant, so some of the students also attend CCSF (City College of SF) to kill off GE more quickly. State is a just a short train ride (station conveniently in front of SFSU) away from CCSF, and a walk away from a major shopping mall. A longer train ride will take you to SF's downtown and to the Embarcadero... Basically, I'd recommend State if you're a business major, or if you really love San Francisco.

SFSU has its advantages and disadvantages... It is an extremely diverse campus, with virutally every ethnicity having strong representation. It is located in a major city which offers lots of educational, recreational and cultural advantages... It has all the advantages of a large state school... A large selection of classes to choose from, lots of programs etc... But also some drawbacks. Being a mainly commuter school, it can be rather hard to meet people and socialize... Teachers, however, are surprisingly accessible for such a large student population. The campus itself is unnatractive. Its buildings are functional, not esthetic, and there are not enough green areas. There are many clubs and student organizations ranging a wide variety of interests... Academics can be challenging, and some teachers are creative in their own style... But at times one can feel like a number instead of a student. Too many required GE classes in my opinion... Overall a satisfying college experience... Not much to rave about, but it's pretty good.
