Santa Monica College is simply a two-year community college located in Beautiful Santa Monica for students who want to further their education, or could not get into their University of choice.

The Academics, if you can get into the right classes, and find the right sources are great. However, I cannot emphasize, finding the right sources any more. Believe me, If you want to succeed here, you have got to work hard for it, and stay away from trouble. I joined the Black Colegians Club, and as a result, got into the better classes at SMC. Keep in mind, SMC does have a system that weeds out the worst of students, which is why, 7,000 students drop out in a year.

As far as social life in concerned, and the student atmosphere. Laughable, Absolutely Laughable. That would be true if this were a university like the California State University System. However, this is community college. Given that, this apparently is a commuter school, unless you live in the area. What is also very unfortunate is that most classes begin as early as 7-am, but on average at 8-am.

This contributes to an atmosphere, of fatigued, hungry, stressed, proscrastinative, and physically ill students and staff. This is very common if not the majority among SMC's population, which Is why I have coined the phrase "SMC SYNDROME". In addition, the SMC atmosphere seems comprised of cliques, crews, and students whose lives revolve around the cellular phone, and the cup of starbucks coffee. This school is nothing special, but If you work hard you will make it.

Super Brilliant
SMC is one of the best community colleges in the country. The teachers do try and if you disagree then you didn't review them on www.rateyourprofessor.com before you signed up. Best way to go if you want to transfer, get an associates, certificate, or just learn new skills. +++ many great surrounding cities!
