Super Brilliant
SMC is one of the best community colleges in the country. The teachers do try and if you disagree then you didn't review them on www.rateyourprofessor.com before you signed up. Best way to go if you want to transfer, get an associates, certificate, or just learn new skills. +++ many great surrounding cities!

I'm from out-of-state, second semester at SMC. It's a competitive place. I came here bc it was #1 in transfers. I moved from the Midwest all by my lonesome and it's been sort of tough making friends. Most people still hang out with the people they did in high school I suppose and all the international kids keep to their own little packs. The professors are great but the people in admissions, fin. aid, etc are all kind of bitches. Occasionally you'll get the one nice person who actually gives a shit, but 98% of the time they'll be assholes and you have to be rude right back or they'll walk over you. It was a big change for me but there's always stuff do, beach, Hollywood, whatever. You don't need a car, just figure out the bus system and you'll be better off because parking is a bitch anywhere and everywhere (I got two tickets right off the bat). It's an ok campus and I've never felt unsafe and all of my classes have been stimulating/ satisfying thus far.

I came to SMCC as a working adult to get continuing ed, as opposed to a high school grad. I already have a BS degree. The classes in SMCC are more difficult than most classes I had in college at UCSD.Most professors give moderate homework, relevant to the course material, even in the online classes. They are generally well-organized and follow their own syllabus, with fair grading systems. The classes are smaller than most 4 year universities, and the profs are generally more available, and definitely more personable.
