 | Quite Bright | Honestly, the school is what you make of it. If you come with an attitude of opportunities being handed to you, think again. It's easy to get caught up with the lackluster general student body, or the lethargic attitude, but you would be really surprised at what you can pull away with. I don't think I worked all that hard at my major (Economics/Law & Society) but I graduated with honors, participated in prestigious internships, and am about to start law school. The best thing about UCR is that it is pretty easy to distinguish yourself because no one else really puts forth any effort. The bad thing is that it can get quite easy to get caught up with that kind of attitude. Socialscene-wise, yeah it gets pretty dead on weekends. I ended up joining a frat which made UCR A LOT more enjoyable. And yes, I partied quite a bit, and I still ended up with honors, so it's not like you have to sacrifice all that much at UCR. Overall, a great school as long as you have your head on straight, but easy to get sidetracked. | Preparedness: B, Reputation: D+ | | |

| | Bright | | ppl seem to have a negative attitude about this school; they act like this is the worst school to ever attend. ppl here either love or hate it. ppl also seem to exaggerate the negatives about the school as well. it's not that hot during the school year--except for summer. and besides, it's freakin' southern california near LA! it's going to be hot! it's not really a bad school at all, it's just the location--that's why you need a car! moreover, there is smog but it is not the worst in the nation thankfully. and ppl seem to somehow connect the city of riverside with the school it self. riverside is not really that great of a city, but that does not mean that a crappy city = crappy school. yes yes the heat sucks, yes the smog is there, and yes the city sucks compared to SD or LA... BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN THE ACADEMICS ARE PISS-POOR! anyways, the faculty is great! they want to help you and welcome you with open arms. sure some may not speak english that well, but there are other universities with the same problem. the one thing that annoys me about ucr are the old buildings. buildings such as sproul and watkins are so ugly. fortunately, ucr is going through some major renovations; there is tons of contruction going around. they are adding a new commons and new academic buildings as well! buildings that are much more aesthetically pleasing to the eye.i have to admit that i was not that excited about going to riverside. i actually didn't know what to expect, all i knew was that it was just down there near LA. i searched around some forums such as collegeconfidential and i have found some very strong opinions about the campus. like i said, you will find ppl who HATE it or LOVE it. I actually sort of grown to like this school. | Education Quality: A+, Surrounding City: B | | | |
