The English department is absolutely awesome. If I could take English courses all throughout my time here at UCR, I would do so in a heartbeat. They are not only friendly but they help students grow intellectually and maybe perhaps...spiritually.

But the only real big thing I have against UCR is the financial aid office. If you are receiving financial aid please take extra care and watch yourselves.

They mishandled my files on three separate occasions. The first was not receiving my FAFSA application, resulting in my exemption from the work-study program. The second was that they did not note that I had turned in copies of my income tax return and it resulted in being denied a grant. The third is...pretty much my last straw. I had received scholarships and was sent these scholarships as early as July 2006. It is now October 2006 and I am in need of financial assistance. The fiancial aid office somehow did not receive these scholarships although my donors have told me the specific date when they sent out the checks. Although I am not going to be $20K on loans (thank God) or anything like that...I do regret to say that I could have definitely saved more money had the financial aid office taken better care of me.Education is great, but the administration definitely needs help. Again, please take extra care when dealing with the financial aid office at UCR.

UCR?UCLA program is bogus. I went throught the entire things, and they set up road bloocks and the administrative traps to weed out who they don't like. They should be investigated or at least more open about their policies concerning admissions to the medical school poretion. With a GPA of 7.7 (as I am a white male) but they did not see me fit, but did find others with GPAs aroung 3.5-3,6 fit to enter because they had "experienced trying situations". The only reason they look at "life circumstances" in their official "comprehensive review" of each candidate is becasue they are leagally not allowed to look at race as a factor. Out of 50 people, I and 15 other white males did not continue on to the medical portion, only one white male made it and he had a 4.0 (really and only one other girl had this grade). So don't be fooled, if you want to make it in here you should bet on getting a 4.0 if you are white, or if your not white go for it you'll get in with anything above a 3.65. I am just letting you know so you know what to expect.
