I agree with a lot of what's been posted here. My personal peeve about BR is that all your real "hands-on" training comes in your last quarter of school. The other Vet Tech program in Denver breaks their internships up throughout the two year curriculum, so you get some theory, then some hands-on intermingled. To me, this reinforces learning, and also lets you know right away if you enjoy different aspects of Vet Tech work or not. Saving it all until the last quarter doesn't make much sense to me.

Overall, I would say I got a decent education at BR, but I could have gotten much the same education elsewhere for half the price, and gotten exactly the same $12.64/ hour job (about average for an entry-level Vet Tech in Denver as of June 2011) at the end of it. Just something practical to weigh against those ads on Animal Planet.

ive attended bel-rea for over a year. do not attend bel-rea if you plan on living out of town. they never close when snow storms hit. they do not care if you make it or not and if you have an exam that day snow is not a medical or legal excuse for missing it and you will not be able to make it up. believe me its happened. all the school really cares about is getting their money and making students as stressed as possible. however, if you love animals and there is nothing you want more than to be a cvt, bel-rea may be for you. but just know they do now work with you on schedualing or care if you have kids.

I have been going to bel-rea for about 2 years and the only reason I am still going there is because there is no way to transfer because they set up their courses so you cant because they want all your money. The school does not allow you to do a damn thing unless you are their favorite. They dont work with your schedule at all. There are people who are single moms or have no other source of income and the school makes it impossible for you to work unless you get a graveyard shift job and they dont care at all. They have a mandatory attendance policy which is crap. I can understand requiring attendance for certain labs, tests, etc. but requiring you sit in a lecture that isnt teaching you anything because they read straight from the manual or the teacher is just terrible and gives nonsense lectures is ridiculous. I just took large animal and I only learned stuff during lab, the 4 hours of lecture I had to sit through each week I didnt learn a damn thing. Then have no forgiveness. You could be in a firey car wreck and lose both of your arms and they dont care thats the reason why you missed animal care they are going to fail you anyways. They just want your money. I cant believe I am paying almost $30,000 for a crappy 2 year associate degree. Another way to show they want your money you have to wear their piece of crap, cheap material scrubs that dont fit any girl with the slightest bit of hips. And they rip and fall apart within two weeks. I went and bought matching color scrub pants so that I would have some that would stay together and stay on and they made me leave class and change... I was still wearing the bel rea scrub top and the pants were the same color. Now it seems like they are allowing every single person into the school. Which is causing the school and classes to be overcrowded. If they are going to do that they need to take some of the money we are giving them and invest in a new building and more teachers( and hopefully some more professional teachers). Just letting you all know before start know what you are getting into because you pretty much signing your life/$30,000 away to the school.
