 | Quite Bright | | Colorado Aero Tech did an average job in preparing me to enter the field. My biggest beef is how they, even today, continue to push the line of BS that aviation maintenance mechanics are in such high demand and so well paid. I never made more than 30K in any given year, but was subject to 10-12 hr shifts, at night in some of the most undesirable locations. I STILL, 15 yrs after the last time I touched an aircraft on a professional level, am paying off the student loans I accrued at CAT. Luckily, I was able to return to a field I had started in before I ever attended CAT. I currently make just a hair less than 3 times the hourly wage I ever made as an aviation technician,, have better shifts/hours and benefits. My advice for those thinking about a 'career' as an aviation maintenance technician...save your money, look another way. It's not worth it unless you care little for job security, being able to provide for your family and having the benefits to keep you and yours healthy and secure and only care about being around the aircraft. | Starting Job: Line Mechanic, Preparedness: C-, Reputation: B- | | |

| | Quite Bright | I always had a passion in aviation and thought it would be the best place to learn how to work on aircraft. They sold the school to me as if it was number one in the country, however I have no prior a&p schooling experience and have nothing to compare it to first hand but there is no way this is the best one out there. Hands down, I would have rather went to Spartan or Embry Riddle. Something with a name behind it. Teachers are all out of work mechanics who either quit, were fired, or laid off. Half of the newer teachers just graduated from the "college" and don't have the "field experience" they tell you their instructors have. everything is busy work. We take notes every day. They tell you this school is hands on....Hands on your pen and paper maybe. Nothing mechanically works in the hangars. All the planes are gutted and haven't flown in decades. Kids are rude at this school. Half of them have a criminal record and the school accepts anyone as long as you are able to apply for a school loan. The office administration has the highest turnover i've ever seen. Every week there is someone new in there. KIds drink and smoke weed in the parking lots during lunch. If you are going to try to get a solid "college" experience or even plan on learning something....GO ELSEWHERE!!! Overpriced and overrated. | | Super Brilliant | CAT was a good learning experiance. Went to Spartan in Tulsa for 6 months prior to CAT. CAT had better instructors hands down. Very good instruction at CAT. Aviation is tough, lots of stress in the field. A good portion of my coworkers are looking at Boeing flight line as the next step in their path to enlightenment. I love what I do at ATS. | Starting Job: Mechanic, Preparedness: B+, Reputation: B- | | |
