When I first visited fort lewis I was taken away from the surrounding beauty of durango and the mountains that surround the campus. But after the first week the honeymoon was over and reality hit. The students are extremely unfriendly when I say hello to someone walking to class the just look down and keep walking like your a leper. If you're not the next survivor man or the next dennis kucinich don't bother attending because while some of the students might be the majority are just arrogant outdooor hippies who criticize you when you dress like a upstanding citizen or try to debate their opinion about how socialism is the best form of government. It seemed that they let anyone in as long as they owned a pair of chacos and a hemp hoodie.

Then their was the issue of nightlife, my entire high school went harder people were amazed when they hear you drank on a school night. Futhermore there are no places to rage if you're a freshman living in the rundown cramped dorms because everyone lives down the hill and this GDI infested college has no greek life and thus no parties or attractive women for that matter. The students all seem to be trying to keep up with cu by smoking a copious amounts of weed and flaunting it like it was freshman year of high school again. I get bro you smoke weed nobody wants to sign your petition or listen to the dead. They only way this place becomes a respectful institution is if it stops giving indians a free ride and become a private school to incourage a educated student body.

All I can really say about Fort Lewis is that you have to love the mountains. If you don't love the mountains, forget it. I mean you really have to be like a mountain man or something to make the most of it.

Someone said in a previous post that there's a lot of competition to be the most "outdoorsy." Couldn't have said it better myself. If you're a dude, you better be able to grow a beard. It's that rugged.

The people who work at outdoor pursuits are pretty stuck up. Don't expect to book an ice climbing trip with them unless you have a friend who works there. It will be booked way before the flier gets stapled up.

If you love the mountains, go for it. If not, then try something else. Honestly, if you don't love the mountains, you shouldn't even be in Colorado in the first place. So maybe this post is just a bunch of general knowledge anyway.

I knew a lot of cool kids who just transferred to different schools after a year or two. And I knew a lot of kids who attended Fort Lewis because it was their "safety school" to Boulder or whatever. Basically, it isn't for everyone. A lot of students there take their sweet time in graduating because they just want to take it easy and be in their own little world in Durango. Honestly, that's not such a bad idea. Go there if you want a unique experience. But if you have an expectation of what your college experience should be, do yourself a favor and attended a larger campus in a less isolated town.

Overall, I'm glad that I graduated from Fort Lewis. College is a weird time. One day you're having the best time of your life, the next day you're wonder if you even have a soul. Really, college is like a journey. It's a privilege. So make the most of it. Think hard about where you want to be. And follow your heart.

Having attended one other undergraduate school and grad school at DU, Fort Lewis College's Business School is by far the best business school I have attended. Challenging and fun. Professors were highly approachable and in some cases available at home for help! Unbelievable. My entire undergraduate education cost less than one year an Univ. of Denver. I was highly prepared for DU. Additionally, the community is exceptional.
