An undergraduate education is essential. My experience at the University of Southern Colorado was fantastic. I was involved in student government and speech & debate. Our debate team was especially competitive as we ranked in the top Ten of The Nation in Cross-Examination debate from 1971
through 1982, among over 200 colleges & universities nation wide. As a representative of University of Southern Colorado
(and NOT CSU), my debate partners and I defeated teams from Harvard, Georgetown, UCLA, USC, US Air Force Academy, West Point, as well as regional rivals CSU, Colorado College, U of Wyoming, U of Utah and several others. I was sick to hear my school was changed to CSU, which was our rival for many years. I am proud of my time at USC Pueblo. I am NOT an alum and never will be an alum of CSU ! | Starting Job: Asset Recovery Director, Preparedness: B-, Reputation: D

| Quite Bright | The name change to Colorado State University - Pueblo will certainly help with the school's reputation. However, I have not found that the university's perceived bad reputation has hurt me professionally. In fact, I have a better job (and a better salary) than the vast majority of my friends from high school that attended more "prestigious" schools like CU-Boulder, CSU, Colorado College, and the Colorado School of Mines. Although it is probably an aberration, the most highly compensated people I know of the same age group attended USC. I personally found the faculty bright and competent, and the small class sizes beneficial for discussion and learning. I would tend to agree that many of the undergraduate students are not educationally prepared for a university setting, and that the university should strengthen its admissions standards. However, I would say that the vast majority of those students either did not graduate, or eventually found their academic footing in their 2nd or 3rd year. | Starting Job: marketing manager, Preparedness: B, Reputation: D | | |

USC, or CSU-Pueblo now, is actually a really great school. At first, I wasn't into the programs...I was just into partying and doing the whole college social scene. After I outgrew that, I really buckled down and totally took advantage of the hands-on experience in my TV broadcast emphasis. I don't know anywhere else you can get this kind of training working with tv, radio, etc. But, like with any good school, you HAVE to want to take everything by the balls and be the best there is. Seriously, what you get OUT of the school totally depends on what you put IN to it. You're challenged by how much you want to be challenged.
If you're into the social scene, USC isn't it. Pueblo's a joke when it comes to activities. There isn't a lot of school pride when it comes to athletics. Only the dedicated few attend sports activities, which is a shame. It's a good school to play sports at, though, since many athletes go onto bigger things in their sport. It gets kind of frustrating when students know more than the adjunct profs do, but it doesn't happen often. The faculty is super friendly, and will do everything they can to help you out. Overall, it's a great school which does really well in business, masscomm (advertising, broadcast tv, etc) art, music, CIS, and the usual bio, chem, english, math fields. You get more bang for yer buck with USC in my opinion. | Perceived Campus Safety: A+, Social Life: D
