Wow, what is there to say?|
There are muggings all the time, even high-profile ones that land on the news.
Campus safety is sparse and woefully ineffective.
There is very little intermingling amongst students in different groups; people are very closed off (this phenomenon is widely-acknowledged).
There is very little to do except party; some people do nothing but.
The transfer rate is 34% in the year of 2009 - this is a correct statistic.
Most of the smartest people in your classes will have transferred by the end of your sophomore year.
Professors, Deans, leaders all over this campus are jumping ship.
The food is always bad, without exception. Chartwells is overpriced dog food, and should stick to serving prisoners.
I do not doubt that Trinity was at one time a great school, it no longer is so.
If you are not among the few who are in one of the three major fraternities, then you have no potential to be happy here.
The endowment is hemorrhaging, we cannot even afford to repair the Chapel because there is no liquid money that can be spent.
Trinity College has a very different experience and atmosphere from any other college in a pejorative way.
Go to any other school in the NESCAC or even a public university over Trinity.
I'm white, wealthy, WASPy, and even mostly Republican, but this place has problems with racism, classism, and homophobia.
I can name numerous country clubs, polo clubs, and ski resorts that treat people with less money and more color in their skin significantly better.I transferred to any IVY as a result of family connections, and never looked back except for my friends.

| Allow me to preface this critique of a school that is so mired in abject ineptitude, it is a caricature of itself: I was accepted into the University of Pennsylvania, University of Michigan, amongst a few other top-caliber schools. Lest I write until my fingers fall off, ill stick to bullet points (quite fitting given this was a common edagogical method of teachin at trinity college).|
1.) the campus is in the heart of the most dilapidated ghetto you will ever find. While i was at trinity, before i transferred of course, a kid was stabbed in the neck, one had his arm broken, an multiplicity of robberies (way to long to list here), car jackings, numerous thefts, etc.
2.) for such a small school, the faculty are decidely unapproachable (i shouldnt have to schedule a meeting to see a professor in a school of 2000 odd kids).
3.) The food sucks...REALLY SUCKS, no variety, a lack of assorted cuisine throughout the week--a cuisine lacking in creativity AND nutritional merit
4.) There is no variety in class selection, no finance major, no architecture program...and thats just the tip of the iceberg
5.) Social life is the worst in the country (of course this presupposes ive been to every school in the country, which i havent, but ive been to enough schools to the point where i can comfortably make that statement. If you are not an trammeled slut with no discretion u will not get into a frat. Frats are the only organizations that throw parties at trin and the monopolize the social scene. the minorities are just as bad as the majority of the studenty body--white kids--and minstrelize themselves on a daily basis. There is no intellectual ethos to the schoo, nor is there any school spirit. football games are commonly half-empty, as are basketball games. there is no school band, no cheerleading team, nada. The school is very segregated as it is racist (to be fair im referring not to the administration but to the student body, although both get blame because the former selects the latter). Ive heard kids use the word "spic" "nigger" "faggot" in the most derogatory of manners, and the demographic of the school is so monolithic that unless u want to live out 4 years in utter hell, i suggest u find another school to go to. The weather, as you would expect of a school in connecticut, is terrible. There is virtually no social scene off-campus, nor is there on on-campus for that matter. I could go on for years writing about the utter misery that trinity college fosters, but i think u get my point. This is the worst school on the planet, and every negative diatribe you've heard about trinity college is ABSOLUTELY TRUE. (btw, this was the nice version, if i threw in personal anecdotes trinity college would sound like Aushwitz.)

| A four year camp for trust fund babies. This school was full of bigoted, spoiled, daddy's kids. As a latino male I never felt welcomed, and it was if the students felt that I was there because of affirmative action, not realizing that not only did I attend one of the most prestigious high schools in the country, but the only reason I ended up there was because of personal problems that required me to be close to home and it was the closest school I applied to to NY. And that wasn't even the biggest problem with the people, most of the minorities proved those close minded assholes right more than half the time by taking on Bo Jangles roles. And the ones that were normal and weren't performing for whitey half the time became miserable because they were forced to alienate themselves. The lack of diversity, made it awful for students of color to have an active social life since unless you were a girl who was a slut, you were not allowed into frat parties. Another thing was the fact that you couldn't take the classes you wanted ever because they were so limited. And despite this school hailing itself as one of the best small colleges with the best engineering program there was no architecture program, and their fine arts major was pathetic and most people I knew who had it as their major did not graduate on time, despite needing the least amount of credits to graduate. The athletic facilities were a joke. When I first saw their football field I thought it was their practice field and asked someone where the game field was. A hole in the wall gym had more to offer in terms of quantity and useful workout equipment. The housing crises forced dorms to add one student to every room, ex. making a single into a double, a double into a triple, etc. They served knock off brands in the dining hall. Contrary to what the website says my professors did not hold the highest degree for their fields and the ones that did moved on to teach at better colleges. The neighborhood is the true definition of a ghetto. Puerto Rican gangs over run the area where Trinity is located and since campus safety can only carry flashlights they can come and do whatever they want. I myself was held up by gun point and almost robbed, and when asked how they can make it safer I suggested that they park a car in the parking lot across from the dorm that it happened since it's on the edge of campus and the opposite side of the campus the campus headquarters is. And nothing was done about it 3 weeks later a similiar incident happened. If you're not a trust fund baby and especially if you are a minority, you will be miserable unless you don't have a problem giving up your dignity to entertain the ignorant bigots that make up 90% of the student population. |
