The University of Bridgeport has potential to be a great school. However, if you care about your education now, I would choose else where. I haven?t experienced my first college party yet, but I don?t really have that overwhelming urge to party. It seems like such a trivial thing to desire when I have so many other opportunities. I?ve met people from France, Romania, China, Ecuador, New Jersey, NYC, Long Island, and compared to Maryland it is so different! I absolutely love talking to people about where they came from even if it is a place like New Jersey because it is unique in its own way. Diversity is in abundance and I am embracing it for all it is worth! I?ve come across groups of people that I have chosen to avoid for various reasons, but I still embrace their individuality because it is what makes them a person. The University of Bridgeport is certainly not the greatest of all institutions, but it certainly does have its perks. I?m talking about things such as diversity, location, and size. As far as academics are concerned I would NOT choose this school. Look somewhere that will give you the ability to learn and challenge you! The University of Bridgeport does not offer that sort of curriculum, which is most likely due to the unmotivated students that attend it. Expectations are that of my high school. My opinion of the music department is not a positive one. On a scale of 1-10, with a one being superb and a 10 being a joke, I?d give it a five. Why a five? Well, it is great for a person who is starting out. I see it as a great middle school music program. The classes are small, the atmosphere is delightful, it is a very individualized program, but it lacks the aspect of a challenge. Then again, to a beginning musician it may very well be a challenge. However, to someone who has played for several years it may be best to look elsewhere. Personally, I enjoy the ?coziness? of the program, but I want more. I feel like paying to go to a college that leaves you still yearning for more out of its program isn?t a good fit. Though the music program isn?t satisfactory, academics are worthless, and the immediate surrounding area is far less than ideal, I still like this campus. I?ve made some wonderful friends with all different backgrounds and aspirations. All in all, not a terrible school, but it is one that certainly needs work in many areas. | Faculty Accessibility: A-, Education Quality: F | | | |

| | Quite Bright | Here's the truth about UB: The University of Bridgeport is a true 'diamond in the rough'. It's been dealt a few bad cards over the years and is steadily putting forth the necessary effort in order become the university that every student deserves. With that said, of course there is going to be some things which are not perfect, but then again, what school is perfect? UB starts by accepting students who are 'in need of a second chance' so to speak. They understand struggles and tough times therefore they try to pass that down to the student body and is therefore willing to accept students with less than perfect grades and test scores. However, this is where the problem occurs. Many of the students who are accepted are not interested in bettering themselves as a person and as a student. They are fixated on continuing bad habits of skipping class, being lazy/violent/ destructive/ closed-minded/ you name it. Having been here for three years, I've seen this pattern repeat several times. Heck, I was one of them. My first semester here, I fell below a 2.0 and nearly got myself kicked out. I immediately turned myself around and realized how lucky I was am to at least be getting an education. I am now on the President's list every semester and Im also a student leader. Yes, the campus is not the most beautiful but with what UB has, they're certainly making the most of it. They spent $1m+ to redesign the library with state of the art equipment to help students study. The campus itself is also located on a remarkable piece of land in Bridgeport on the shore of Long Island Sound, I wouldn't recommend swimming there, but the scenery is great for a run or just to take a walk and chat with friends. The administration is constantly looking for the next project to tackle, and contrary to what the pessimists believe - UB throws lots of time, effort, and money into these projects. They're always looking for ways to give the students what they want and they reach out for us to tell them. As a student, you get the opportunity to have an amazing impact on campus, now whether that impact is positive or negative is completely up to you. If you decide to do good, to help yourself, help others, and help the institution then you will see that you have nothing less that an army of other students, faculty, and administrators who are willing to work with you and do whatever they can to help. For me, classes are a little too easy, but I speak with my professors and encourage them to challenge me further. They listen, and they are anxious to hear about what you want to achieve so that they can help in whatever way possible. I love this school. it's not perfect, and neither am I - but if a student here at UB supports the school, it supports back and really, that's the way things should be. This is a true story. If you want to know more about UB, please take a tour, experience it for yourself, and become part of this team dedicated to making Bridgeport better, versus one who expects to sit back and reap the rewards when that time comes. I assure you, your time here will not be ill spent. | Faculty Accessibility: A+, Scholastic Success: B- | | | |
