good thing about the school ...its size .... bad thing about the school ....its size. Either way you look at it the school is 50/50 on everything from academics to social life in my opinion. But it is up to you to make the most of it. What bothers me the most about LU is its not busy enough or lively enough and social activities are minimal. Some days its very very quiet, the only time its busy is during class time. I hate that that the library is never open 24 hrs and generally closes at 10pm. There is not a wide variety of food choices on campus. The amount of food chains here I can probably count on one hand. However the surrounding campus is beautiful nature wise and sometimes the peace and quiet is welcomed especially during exam time. In terms of programs I can only speak for science. The profs are ok, I had one chem prof who was awesome. They are helpful and easy to access because class sizes are really small compared to the larger universities. Had I had a choice again would I choose laurentian again? no... my reason because its not busy enough, not enough extra curricular activities or social groups. I swear all everyone always talks about is pub, nothing exciting or new and fresh happens here.

It depends on the program. However in the sciences (i.e.: Biochemistry) profs don't seem to have much teaching ability at all, and don't seem to ask for any input from students. Especially the new profs.

If you choose Laurentian, you are choosing the school for personal reasons because it is not well known or an overall gem. That said, there are a few niche areas where you can get a really unique experience - outdoor education, sports administration, midwifery, and mining engineering for example. In these specialized areas, the individual departments do a stellar job. The city is not a good city but its a great outdoors area in general up there.
