The department of Pharmaceutical Sciences is a complete joke. Do not waste your time applying to this program unless you are interested in wasting time, money, and have a desire to not graduate. First of all the dept uses unethical means to lure students by promising a funded education. Don't be misguided, very few students receive some sort of financial help. However, that is not the biggest issue. The problem is don't admit students if you know funding is not there. Many students are unable to do research since there are no supplies and subpar equipment. Others work full time jobs barely getting by with enough time to attend class and do research. The faculty are self absorbed, spineless arrogant punks. They don't care about student success, but are more concerned with finding fault with them. They make the most ignorant and obnoxious comments to students accusing them of illicit behavior and lack of focus. The students here are among the most dedicated group I've ever seen. They are willing to buy solvent, drive 400 miles to pick up donated equipment, and fund socials when the faculty is too cheap and unwilling to direct them to better means.

This is a truly disgusting place. I implore you to look elsewhere like UMD. Take a look at their graduate rate. They graduate at least 6 phd students yearly. Nobody has received a PhD in this dept at Howard in at least 7 years. Keep in mind that there is strong internal hate amongst the faculty. They despise one another and take joy in failing each others students. The only exception is the faculty in the pharmacy admin program who care a great deal about students. Nothing will change unless key professors are fired for deliberate actions to undermine dept success.

Ask any student and all will tell you the truth. Don't apply here and if you did then don't come. You will be sorry.

Pharmacy

I am a graduate student at Howard. My overall experience has been negative. The professors are self-absorbed and do not care about the students. The campus is dirty and unkept. Nothing works in the buildings (restrooms, lights, water fountains). There is too much security. The sports teams are very bad.

The only positive thing are the women.

Psychology

The administration at Howard and the people who work in those offices are abusive, unfriendly, and act as if they are doing you a favor when you go to one of their offices. The graduate English dept is like a roach motel--people check in, but they don't check out. Only as a result of pressure from other offices is the department doing more to help people move through the program. I would liken my experience at Howard to a hazing process, or even the process of breaking a slave. They make you fell dumb by breaking down you confidence. By the time you finish the program, they have orchestrated things so you feel indebted to them. I would never recommend Howard to anyone.
