the administration here is terrible. The level of disorganization combined with unfriendly, uncaring staff makes this a terrible experience.
Howard is the meccaAug 29 2016Business - Management and Administration
Howard is the mecca. It is an institution as far as being an HBCU. Sure there are some things that need to be updated and transformed, but there is much to appreciate as well. Part of being a college student is to take advantage of the opportunities you are given and to make the most of them. Attending Howard, and living in Washington DC, you will have many opportunities that other people can only dream about. Make it happen for yourself!
I am a Pharmacy Student here at HowardFeb 02 2012Pharmacy
I am a Pharmacy Student here at Howard and althought its been a challenege with the level of difficulty with the material. I am having a great time at Howard University. I had never even been on a plane before coming here. I chose this school because the way professors cared about me. When I interviewed for pharmacy school the professor who interviewed me said she would check on me to make sure I got home safely and she actually did. The next year she hired me for research and afterwards her colleague hired me for an internship. Howard University is full of opportunities if you just take advantage of them. Also with my school being in the heart of DC there are opportunities everywhere. When I need help there is never a time when I can't find it. Not every professor is wonderful and kind and caring but 1 bad professor or secretary does not reflect this university or its accomplishments.
The department of Pharmaceutical Sciences is a completeApr 19 2008Pharmacy
The department of Pharmaceutical Sciences is a complete joke. Do not waste your time applying to this program unless you are interested in wasting time, money, and have a desire to not graduate. First of all the dept uses unethical means to lure students by promising a funded education. Don't be misguided, very few students receive some sort of financial help. However, that is not the biggest issue. The problem is don't admit students if you know funding is not there. Many students are unable to do research since there are no supplies and subpar equipment. Others work full time jobs barely getting by with enough time to attend class and do research. The faculty are self absorbed, spineless arrogant punks. They don't care about student success, but are more concerned with finding fault with them. They make the most ignorant and obnoxious comments to students accusing them of illicit behavior and lack of focus. The students here are among the most dedicated group I've ever seen. They are willing to buy solvent, drive 400 miles to pick up donated equipment, and fund socials when the faculty is too cheap and unwilling to direct them to better means.

This is a truly disgusting place. I implore you to look elsewhere like UMD. Take a look at their graduate rate. They graduate at least 6 phd students yearly. Nobody has received a PhD in this dept at Howard in at least 7 years. Keep in mind that there is strong internal hate amongst the faculty. They despise one another and take joy in failing each others students. The only exception is the faculty in the pharmacy admin program who care a great deal about students. Nothing will change unless key professors are fired for deliberate actions to undermine dept success. Ask any student and all will tell you the truth. Don't apply here and if you did then don't come. You will be sorry.

I am a graduate student at HowardJan 29 2008Psychology
I am a graduate student at Howard. My overall experience has been negative. The professors are self-absorbed and do not care about the students. The campus is dirty and unkept. Nothing works in the buildings (restrooms, lights, water fountains). There is too much security. The sports teams are very bad.The only positive thing are the women.
The administration at Howard and the people whoApr 06 2007English
The administration at Howard and the people who work in those offices are abusive, unfriendly, and act as if they are doing you a favor when you go to one of their offices. The graduate English dept is like a roach motel--people check in, but they don't check out. Only as a result of pressure from other offices is the department doing more to help people move through the program. I would liken my experience at Howard to a hazing process, or even the process of breaking a slave. They make you fell dumb by breaking down you confidence. By the time you finish the program, they have orchestrated things so you feel indebted to them. I would never recommend Howard to anyone.
