The school is very nice and people really do love it here. However, my situation wasn't the best. My first year my roommate got kicked out. I had networked through him to make friends and I was basically lost after that. I realized that students rely too much on their roommates and should go out and discover more. The first couple of weeks of school the greek scene is all over the freshman areas and has parties to recruit new members. New students are intimidated and think that joining a frat/sorority is the only thing to do. Most end up rushing and those who don't really do lose out socially. I personally didn't like frats so I didn't want to rush. There are many clubs on campus to get involved in, but it seems as if people are just there for club business not for friendship. I am still waiting to see if I can meet some new friends here but once that first month of school pases if you didn't get "in" with a group, don't plan on it unless you can give them something, such as info on where parties are or a house.

My college education definately opened doors to my current education, though I had to seek them out and be proactive in doing what I needed to get there. I wish I had switched my major completely to biology early on (and made the commitment to self about grad school) so that I could have concentrated on my core science classes and done research, but I did learn a lot in the finance major, and made a lot of excellent contacts through the Dean's Scholar program. The professors are great if you seek them out and are reasonable - and I believe secured my acceptance in this program through their recommendations.

I just completed my Sophomore year at the University of Delaware and I LOVE IT!! Some people say the people here are arrogant but I really don't think so. The majority of the school's population are Abercrombie & Fitch, J. Crew type of people...Luckily I'm a J. Crew type of guy. So if you're anything like a prep or jock you'll def. fit in. There are ALL diff types of people, not everyone here is closeminded. A couple of months ago they had a Gay Pride parade on Main St...although I don't know what the turnout was like...they say they still had it. The University tries their best to offer us things to do. There are house parties AT LEAST every Friday and Saturday...if you're 21 or over you'll love the bar scene (3 bars) on Main St. The majority of the campus here LOVES to drink, as do I. A frat had a Luau party with 2,000 people 500 Cases of beer (30 beers a case) and they ran out of beer in 4 hours. Homecoming IS GREAT...pay $3 and drink all day, from sun up to sun down. Wake up in the morning and have Keg & Eggs...you will literally see people passed out in the grass by 1pm-2pm. Gotta love UD BABY!!! WOOOOHOOOO!!!!! Oh yea and the academics are good too!
