If you honestly are not 100% sure that this is the school for you when you walk on the campus then DO NOT GO HERE. And when you go on tours do not trust everything they say, go around and talk to students and sit in on classes and try to spend a night here because the tour and info session is really not enough. I wasnt sure whether this was the school for me and now that I have been here I realized the University of Delaware has nothing special to offer. I feel as if you do not get any personal attention from faculty and if you want to get into med school they do not really care about anyone else other then their bio majors. If you don't know anyone else going to the University of Delaware then fitting in will be difficult. Everyone hangs out with people from high school and the clicks are almost impossible to break into after the first few days of arriving. After having an amazing high school experience the University of Delaware has been a big let down. Classes are ususally huge lectures and are not really special in anyway. The clubs are decent but are no different then any other school. There is nothing particulary special about University of Delaware and Newark is not fun. Mainstreet is cool when you first see it but don't let it fool you there is really nothing to do there other then get an occasional off campus meal. The party life is okay except many parties are exclusive and not that fun. I have found the University of Delaware to just be a very unfriendly place. I plan to transfer to a smaller school next year. Also although on tours they say its a medium sized school it is really HUGE. If you want a decent college experience and not anything special then come here, but beware because looks are very deceiving.

The administration here is a joke. From the billing and financial aid departments to the admissions and continuing education departments, my spouse and I have received nothing but challenges from inept and complacent employees. They don't care about their jobs or their customers (the students). Each semester produces a new debacle that needs to be worked through. I had to fight to get accepted because I was told my application was submitted for the wrong semester. They said I had applied online for the Spring of 08 in Mar of 08. Applying for Spring wasn't an option on their website as the semester was half way over. I had paperwork printed out with details assuring me I was right. I was quickly then told I was excepted and never offered an apology or explanation. This has set the trend that has only continued! A dean attacked my wife verbally about a misunderstanding. And when the dean realized she was in the wrong, she then dropped to the level of a petty child and told my wife apropos of nothing, she was parked in the wrong parking lot and would probably get a ticket. The attitudes at this college are a disgrace and people have forgotten the students are the University's reason for existence. We both hold degrees from other schools, she has since left UD for another school. I continue only because of its where I live and I'm almost done. I've become so annoyed by my constant struggle that I have long since dismissed attending here for Grad School as well.

While this school is not for me( I'm looking into transferring next year to a smaller, ivy league school ), I've found the professors and students to be very nice and welcoming. Sometimes the administration has a way of putting its foot in its mouth and coming off badly, but I think the intentions are good.

The campus isn't particularly diverse, but people from all different backgrounds get along.

After learning a little bit more about myself, I'm now looking for a university with more of an academic atmosphere. Certainly not all, but a majority of the people here do not strike me as very intelligent. It's easy to coast here if you want to.
And while I enjoy partying, I feel like it's really the only thing to do here. If you don't have a car or friends with cars, you'll end up feeling pretty isolated on campus. Other than the few shops on Main St., nothing is very convenient and the town of Newark is pretty dull. Also, the school is on its way to lowering the requirements for in-state applicants to allow almost any Delawarean. So, for out-of-state students who have worked harder, have better grades and are paying more, it's a little disheartening.

This just wasn't the place for me, but if you like to party and are outgoing and not necessarily in need of small or focused academic environment, then UD might be for you. I know some people who love it here.
