Barry University is probably one of the worst schools a person could attend. Well, this is the case if you care about you education. To start off, the dorms are disgusting. When I moved in there was mold in the shower and there was dirt all over the place. The so called study room had writing on the walls, black dirt covering the vents and crappy old furniture. No one at this school has any respect. They blast their gangster rap music and don't think this may be pissing people off that are actually trying to graduate. There is a lot of scholarship money that should be given to the students that are doing well. Ones that go out and party and flunk out should not have been given any of the money to start with. Living on campus is very unsafe. The security guards do not even know which end is up and most of them can not speak English. Some people may say that it is safe here, but after hearing someone got rapped I immediately lost all faith in the security here. To most students at Barry, getting good grades is not the main focus. It is doing drugs in their dorm rooms, partying 24/7 and skipping class. Most of the students are from the Caribbean and do not want to assimilate to American culture. Most of the time, international students like telling Americans how much America sucks. I do not understand why they come to school here then. If this country is so bad to them, they should go home. The academics at Barry are really not that bad. I did expect it to be much harder,. The departments at Barry University hire non English speaking people who are rude and feel no need to listen to what you have to say. The community surrounding the campus is disgusting. It is the Haitian ghetto. This school is very expensive as well. I do not see my money going anywhere, but into the pockets of the employees. I sat in a class for a month straight with a broken leaking air conditioner. Seriously it took them a month to fix. The school just got campus wide wireless internet. The food is disgusting. If you enjoy eating burgers, grilled cheese, pizza and salad every day than this are the place for you. There is no variety and no taste. So if you are thinking of going to this school think twice. This school is morbidly disgusting in my opinion. To begin you are greeted to this school by a great Haitian ghetto that surrounds the school. The school is right smack in the middle of a Haitian ghetto. Most American students come to Barry because they see that it’s in Miami and get excited to be living in a city that is so over exaggerated it’s not even funny!! I have to admit when I got accepted I was so excited I was going to be living in Miami. Well Miami is not all is said to be. It is another world compared to any other American City. The majority of the people who live in Miami are Spanish or black. White people well you don’t see much of them. If you don’t speak Spanish of Creole you’re pretty much screwed. Even if you are white when you walk into a store people will approach you in Spanish and get mad when you speak English. The Miami guys are just Spanish pricks trying to get laid and the girls are rude and egotistical. Barry raves about how diverse it is but in all honesty Barry is diverse yea if you consider every Caribbean Island being here diversity. White people are the minority. In our freshman class their probley is about five white students, the rest are from Caribbean Islands. Now let me get started on dorm life. Living in a dorm room at Barry University is like being in prison. You are locked in a small room, which in fact is usually covered with mold and invested with ants, with a loud obnoxious roommate from some Caribbean Island. And you won't be able to sleep at night because surrounding you are other dorm rooms with loud obnoxious people who don't care about who the y disturb. You can call your R.A or public safety but they never do their job. The food at Barry University gets old real quick, when they serve you the same thing day in and day out. I started getting sick from the food and I thought that it was just that I had a weak stomach, but it turned out that Sodexo the company that Barry uses, served the student such low grade quality food, it made other students sick and in fact gave some food poisoning. The Department of health was here but nothing has been done to stop Barry from serving us crappy food that makes everyone sick. The People that Barry hires to work here are usually Haitians who really look like they just broke out of prison. I honestly find it repulsive that Barry hires just anybody too cook are food .If you ever need anything done at school you usually have to yell to get what you need done because students are just a number to faculty and more money in their pocket. Students come to Barry for a semester and usually end up leaving. Please come see the school before you come here. If you are a normal American citizen I can guarantee you will not feel comfortable in this campus. It is a disgrace that Americans are a minority here at Barry.
