She was obviously on drugs most of the time. we didnt know who she was going to be any day of the week. Come to find out the entire department was damaged. Got rid of any good people before a new chairperson came and they'll probably never know about what's going on, or they will and there'll be a fight or they'll be just as bad and let it go on. Some of my classmates got by staying away got their degree and meanwhile were applying to other programs. That's the way most students even in others departments do it here. This school survives on the catholic church in Miami, the politics there and $30k a year out of my pocket. Im from the midwest and the school was referred to me as a no-brainer. they were right about that. Lesson learned. | | May 03 2013 | Communications | | Prefer not to say |

I graduated from Barry University?s Masters in Biomedical Sciences program in summer 2012. The program was under a change of leadership during this time as other people have noted; however, I believe that I still received an excellent education. The program received a new director at the beginning of the 2012 school year. He is open to student input and wants to maintain a strong academic program and guide students toward building a strong application.
Program Details:
The program is consists of 30 credit hours of required courses and 6 credit hours of elective course work. The required courses consist of neuroanatomy, medical histology, bioethics and health law, medical physiology, medical biochemistry, and gross anatomy for the medical track students (dental track students are required to take general dentistry and head and neck anatomy). The courses are all rigorous and are supposed to simulate the difficulty of first year medical courses.
Each course takes advantages of a variety of learning aids, including traditional textbooks and lecture. The courses also make use of video lecture capture and online resources. These tools make it easy to stay up with the material and fill in anything you missed noting in class. The professors are also very friendly and make the time to help students with any problems. Moreover, they all seem to genuinely enjoy teaching.
The courses for anatomy (gross and head and neck), neuroanatomy, histology, and physiology all have labs. The labs are very useful in applying the concepts in the lectures. While there were some issues of matching lecture and lab material while I attended, the professors did their best to ensure that the two correlated. Labs also make use of virtual and physical learning aids. The BMS program uses models, virtual microscopes, and anatomy software.
It was disappointing to learn that the program?s access to the cadaver lab changed, but students still have the ability to attend a number of guided labs to learn with the prosected bodies. The BMS program has done everything possible to ensure students still benefit from the anatomy lab by investing heavily in models and a number of software programs to supplement the lab. The BMS program is also active in community outreach projects. Any student who desires can participate in a number of projects, including health fairs and mentorships. These projects are a great way to improve your resume. I recommend Barry University?s Masters in Biomedical Sciences program to any student who desires to go to medical school or dental school, but could benefit from a grade point average boost. The program will definitely provide you with the opportunity to do that; however, it will not give it to you. You will earn your grades. If you have the drive and passion to become a dentist or physician, consider Barry University. | | Jul 10 2012 | Biology | | Comprehensive Exam |

The Biomedical Science program at Barry University is extremely expensive and of little value to students pursuing medical or dental school. Students are better off attending another program. The greatest failing of the program is Barry University's lack of support of the program.
Barry University provides the students limited access to the dean of the school of Health Sciences and the president of campus. I felt unappreciated. I felt that little of the money I paid the school returned to me in the form of good classrooms, lab supplies, or satisfied professors.
As a student who also worked as a Teaching Assistant, I experienced 8 weeks of not getting paid by the University. The school continued to lose my paperwork and the paperwork of my fellow TAs. The professor who hired us and the program director did little to help remedy the situation. The experience left me feeling disappointed in the University and the people who work there.
Barry University recently move the Biomedical Science program from the main campus in Miami Shores and moved the campus to Hollywood, Florida. The move was unofficial until about a month before the move. Students beginning the program in August of 2011 discovered the news after they had moved and signed lease agreements, which resulted in many students moving in areas far from the new program site.
The new location in Hollywood is small and classrooms and labs are overcrowded. Some courses are so large not all the students fit in the room. The additional students are placed in an adjacent classroom and the professor is teleconferenced into the adjacent class.
I cannot recommend Barry University. I attended a much larger undergraduate university and I felt I mattered more there. The school actually cared about me and my opinion. Barry University appears to only care about how much money I give them. As for the professors of the program, I believe they are all helpful and care for the students. Unfortunately, they experience the same lack of respect from the University. The school does not appear to treat them well either, nor pay them well. The program has a lot of turnover in regard to faculty. I felt the lack of consistency in faculty was difficult on the students. If you are considering Barry University's Biomedical Science Program, reconsider. | | Jan 22 2012 | Biology

| | Please do not apply to the Barry PA program. It is a total rip off. The quality of academics and the lack of support by Barry University core staff and professors is not worth the high tuition. There are other PA programs that provide an ambient that is both intellectually simulating and helpful for their students. Several students in my class have either withdrawn or been dropped from the program as a result of the lack of support both academically and personally that students obtain at this institution. I am currently a student at a satellite campus in Florida and can honestly tell you that the morale in the classroom has diminished. The demographic of students is pretty young and although they feel the same as I, they refuse to speak up due to fear of being expelled or labeled by staff and core BA university professors. Please reconsider your decision to attend this university. Its simply not worth the additional stress that is compounded to an already stressful schedule and course load. | | Jan 12 2012 | PreMed and Medical | | |

| | | The courses of study were fabulous for a working professional. I found the instructors helpful and easily accessible. The core courses are on par with any other 4 year university and would highly recommend this place for any grad student. Be careful to get the right advisor and be sure you have a solid understanding of their requirements as well as the program reqs. All in all this was an excellent experience that took a lot of work and a strong faculty team to get this done. | | Nov 26 2011 | Computer Science | | |

I was in the Barry MPH program. This program was offered as a "cohort program". The cost was stipulated at "about $24,000". This program was terrible. None of the professors seemed prepared. I believe we only had one or two full time professors, the majority seemed to be working professionals and adjuncts. There was little to no help with research or getting prepared for the CPH exam [certified public health exam]. The program was an after thought and and was merged with the College of Nursing [from the college of Podiatric Medicine] during my tenure there. The program also went through three different directors and their was a major lack of accountability in this program. More importantly, the program did not seem to improve at all during the time I was there. I feel like although I graduated, it would be an embarrassment to add MPH after my name. Now it seems the MPH program had disappeared and it is only offered as a dual degree program. I further agree with many of the comments made about Barry in general, the school is always looking for money. I would pay my tuition or have thousands of dollars in my student account I would continue to get bills saying that I owed money. | | Aug 30 2011 | Public Health

| | | I was a previous PhD student and it took taken me longer than expected to graduate. I finally compared Barry to other PhD programs and found that unlike most credible PhD programs, my dissertation team had no rush in my research, no interest and would drag their feet at answering questions. My advisor especially. She would come up with her usual reasons which made since in her mind only. But that's all that mattered, she's the PhD, right? Apparently as a dissertation student I was not part of her busy schedule. I understand in order to have a decent dissertation there is a certain amount of blood, sweat and tears to endure. This is a transformation and a journey. However, my teachers took that to another level. They made it evident that they weren't teaching, instead they were good at judging and not letting you know if you were on track or not. Most of the time my teachers were self-absorbed and condescending. Rather than teaching and helping they spend a lot of time being critical and sarcastic. In order to get through I found myself ignoring back handed comments from teachers (who I thought were there to help), just to get by and get DONE. I could not wait to be done with my school. If you are a student in the Counseling field I would not suggest you attend Barry "University". | | Aug 19 2011 | Education | | |

| | | Barry University advertises itself as the institution where "you belong." I am a doctoral student and have been working on my dissertation in what has been a total number of three years. I have yet to surpass being approved for my first three chapter why I'll see other students spewing garbage and regurgitated literature reviews. I am vastly in debt and do not recommend Barry University at all. The program is filled with vastly lost, egotistical, and self-absorbed staff that only points to your faults and not theirs, after all the are the Ph.D's! The HRD program at Barry recruits heavily (anyone) and tells you you are doing great, gives you excellent grades, and when you near dissertation, they hold you, and hold you, and hold you. According to them, it is all because of me. My dissertation committee has never met as a group. They referred me to their dean, for help, which I took, another one who is so self-absorbed in her own world and she will never consider her staff's faults, after all they are human and in her eyes all perfect, because they are Ph.D's. In sum, Barry University is garbage, if you are not a youthful blond and busty women or angry minority you will not graduate from their HRD graduate program. | | Barry University. What can i say! The biggest joke in the planet, specially their so famous BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES PROGRAM. If you are reading this and you are a decent student, please save your time, money and name. But, if you have really bad grades and still think you can become a doctor then Barry University is right for you. Lets face it, Barry University's BMS program takes ANYONE, and i am not exagerating. They even have different tracks depending on how much you suck or not. If you have above 3.0 and more or less kept you sh#! together in undergraduate then the track 1 is the perfect for you (that is, off course if you dont fail your first "accelerated" semester ) If you really suck there are tracks like 2 yrs or 18 months which really take anybody as long as you have the cash. For this program especially, the numbers are really important. More like the millions the BMS program brings to the university. What they dont tell you is that their stats are not true (the % of people who get into med or dental school, the reputation of the program in the medical/scholar community, etc.) Maybe before people could get away with this BMS degree from this school when applying to med or dental schools but anymore out there, people are talking about this program and how every looser that can't get into a professional school after 100,000 applications will get into because Barry University's BMS program will "fix your record" and make it look really good. I really wish that someone from SACS will read this and evaluate this program. I hope that no one in my family or friends end up in the hands of a doctor that got his/her masters in Biomedical Sciences here. SCARY!! Oh but wait, let me give you the last advise: If ultimately you end up sucking in the BMS program but still want to be ANY kind of doctor, then you can go to Barry U podiatry school (where all the loosers from BMS end up). | | Jul 12 2010 | Other | | |

| | | After taking out 40 grand in loans to pay for tuition and bills and food and campus housing, I was terminated as I met retaliation after filing a sexual harassment complaint at my internship. I found the GRADUATE SCHOOL OF SOCIAL WORK unprofessional and unethical as they supported the side of the agency. The administration of Barry University Graduate School of Social Work and the Provost (whom I appealed to) cares about nothing but 1) money 2) politics. I was framed for a crime I did not commit and the university used it as a reason to terminate me. NEVER ARRESTED OR CHARGED. Beware of private schools w/ high ratings (Barry University Graduate School of Social Work). It means nothing. Would you want to attend a school that terminates students so that they can maintain a relationship with an agency? Would you want to attend a School of Social Work which encourages social justice yet does this when a student sticks up for their rights? My loan payments for a degree I did not get will start in December. | | Sep 13 2008 | Social Work | | |

| | | I have a sister going to Barry. A few months ago, she filed a sexual harassment complaint at the agency she was interning at, and ever since, she has got nothing but retaliation, threats, and delays, it got so bad, they withheld her graduation and are not being slow at allowing her to finish (she only has 20 internship hours). I have never been to Miami or this university, but already would strongly discourage anyone from attending. If you stand up for yourself (especially women), you will be retaliated against. Despite their claim to being a Christian university, all the really care about is their reputation and money. | | May 28 2008 | Social Work | | |

| | | The Catholic presence is definantly felt here, it's overwhelming to those that are Catholic, and down right persecution to those of other faiths. The education is no where near UofMiami which they compare themselves to. The students are primarily rich spoiled little brats. The administration is disgusting, i've personaly seen them haze and harm students reputations out of spite, one kid was even set up and had to spend hours with cops clearing his name. This place is a cruel joke, i would have rather been hit by a car than go to this school. Now i can't transfer because none of my credits transfer out of this dump | | Mar 22 2005 | Business - Management and Administration | | |

| | | So far Barry has been great, I chose to pursue my MBA here at Barry becasue of the program's convenience to my hectic work schedule. Barry is a relative small school in Miami, however, that should not deterr you from applying to Barry. The faculty and administration are very helpful, and although the emphasis of the MBA program is geared towards the older working adult croud, the university should market the program more aggresively. This is an exceptional program, however, on campus recruiting is dismal at best, getting a job without networking and doing some major legwork is required, but that is true at almost every university. The university is doing some restructuring and it's chaning the image as well, so with due process Barry will be better known in the south, and it will be a grear force to contend with. Will I recommend someone attenting here, my answer will be yes, will I do it again, absolutely!! | | Aug 23 2004 | Business - Management and Administration | | |
