The finance department was particularly weak as was the rest of the business school. Professors taught from textbooks only without regard for real life experiences or the use of case studies. The chair of the finance departmet did not understand the business of finance, investments, ect. After graduating I worked on Wall Street as an analyst and had to learn everything on my own. I was not preparedat all for basic analysis. I struggled to get into a top ranked B-School for my MBA. Once in I realized how low the quality of FAU's business education is compared to better schools. Anyone who seeks to gain opportunity from an FAU education is mistaken. The Boca Raton area is kind of upperclass in the financial sense, so many of the students who attend are kind of snotty. If I had a dollar for every BMW, Mercedes, Lexus in the parking lot... and a dime for every student I saw yapping about nothing on their cell phones I would be a rich man. I personally like the Jupiter campus more, but they do not offer as many courses. Most of the professors I have had seem to genuinely care about teaching and educating students. The administration on the other hand are not as helpful. Financial aid jerks you around and don't give you real options when you need help. Counselors seem bored with their jobs and not to interested in giving real advice.The students tend to be stuck-up rich brats, but to me that's not as important as helpful staff and qualified professors.
