Great school. Over the years it has grown so much. To think this University began in 1991 is truly amazing. If you are looking to party, do not come here. Admissions is getting a lot more selective.

FGCU is a very good school. The professor's are amazing and from all different backgrounds and are flexible on make up work. They have dedicated times to help you so there is no reason you should be failing. I've had one professor whose accent made him hard to understand and he wasn't a very good teacher, but he was such a nice guy and so accommodating (my grandma died and he let me make up a test I missed when while I was mourning. He looked at my grades and saw I missed a couple of homeworks and let me make those up too. I didn't even ask!) The staff is friendly and very helpful also. One thing I hated was the cliquey nature of the school. Everybody here is what I define as a "bro". It's really annoying. I'm not racist, but the school is 70 percent white and all of them try to act black (I know you can't act black but try to imagine what I mean) and say the "n" words all the time which isn't really cool. I'm black and kind of pisses me off, but I get over it. I'm not really used to that kind of behavior since my HS was almost completely African American It's really hard to make friends if you don't fit into that "bro", "hollister","urban outfitters" stereotype. Personally I'm a hardcore music guy who likes going to concerts and really into the scene in general. I thought considering that hardcore music is overall just Caucasians I thought I could meet some friends pretty quickly that had similar interest. WRONG! Everyone here is only concerned with fucking, smoking weed, wearing flip flops and drinking. I don't condone that because hey we're in college, but gets annoying when you have a bunch retards running down the halls at 3am while you're cramming for an exam.

There aren't very many majors at this school but if they have yours I highly recommend the school. However if you don't already have friends here and don't fit the "bro"/"tanning bed faggot" stereotype, don't expect to make friends.I'm going to FIU next year. Considering it's Miami I expect to see a huge music scene.

I love this school..I do admit though that the ft myers is not a college town. But there are things to do here if you look for them. The school gives you the feeling that everyone is on your team and genuinely wants you to succeed. Some courses are just busywork mainly Gen. Eds which are the same at any school, but once you get into your major track, you are fully challenged like you would expect and hope to be. The lake on campus and the campus as a whole is absolutely gorgeous and it provides plenty of outdoorsy activities...An all around GREAT school.
