Well before I start I just want to mention that I've lived in Miami my entire life. Now, FIU is a commuter school, so it will be active on campus during certain hours. Despite all the comments I've read, the campus isn't that big. If you walk all around campus it's mostly because you hose you're classes that way. The people that foot FIU talk mostly with the people they know. If you're shy and want to make friends you're going to have to ind a way to get over it, I know from experience. The faculty is like all the others it's got some that are good and some that are bad. Food-wise most of the junk food will be found in gc while the few healthy options we have are in pg5, which currently is a hassle to get to because of the construction detour. If you want parking get here at least an hour before your class starts. Traffic is horrible at certain times, and the cops make sure you go at the speed limit posted. Now even though its a commuter school, the people that live on campus seem to make friends with those around them. They're always planning events to enjoy the nightlife from what I've seen on our Facebook group. The surrounding city is pretty great compared to other cities only because we have a lot to offer. If you're a social person you'll grit in fine, if not you'll find some people that are more similar to you if you look hard. :) hope this helps.

Fiu University is a place to avoid if you care about your major more than the average student or have a current health or learning disability. For starters teachers act weird to students like they are their enemies in a war. They express little to no concern to your understanding and academic progress. Students pay no attention to making new friendships either, the mentality is to go to class and get out as fast as possible ignoring everyone and everything around you. Also watch out for FIU administration lying about certain process or academic steps toward graduation, I have been lied to about the appeal process after being dismissed, this hurts me but it hurts their school even more. You are charged silly fees for things you don't use like the gym, health and even parking(certain ridiculous)

There is no correlation between the time you spend studying and the grades you actually get. Tests are "tricky" and conveniently prepared to be boring or out of this world. There's a snappy attitude through the whole school that just strikes me as unfriendly and arrogant. Always check who your teachers are before picking them for the next semester, there are more than it's fair share of crazy ones and if you are disabled or sick pick another school immediately, they will throw you out like a dog in no time if you are struggling "too much"

I made the grave mistake of falling sick during my university years and of course I was dismissed and unable to write an appeal because all advisors and chairmen were too busy in their vacation time during December to even look once in their inbox for cases like mine.THEY DON'T CARE!!!I even emailed the person you are supposed to complain to when things go wrong and guess what? NO REPLY, that's it folks, you are on your own here and today I leave this school knowing that I was robbed, lied to, pissed on, ignored and treated like crap when I was only 9 classes away from my diploma. Do yourself a favor and pick a better school!

Quite Bright
The school of Social Work at Florida International University is just disorganized, the process of enrolling classes is a terrible mess, you have to wait until your date of appointment, to find that classes are closed. The administrative staff from the chair person to the sole adviser in the whole school are inflexible, unhelpful and rude. If are thinking about attending the school of Social Work at Florida International University, do your self a favor and go to somewhere else.
