WERE BORED! The tour was good, the dorms are pretty good quality for being freshman dorms but other than that it was a horrible experience. The freshman experience class is a complete waste. We spent the entire class talking about what we did on the weekends and blah blah. English, everyone brought their laptops to class and never payed attention to the teacher.My psychology and math classes were about 285 people so the teacher had no idea who any of us were. They are money hungry fools and their extremely unorganized. On the actual area, i feel safe here, but South Beach is so overrated. My friends are having more fun at ODU in virginia than i am in miami. The clubs are not that great and the beach is just like any other beach. It is not live at all! I know they say college is what YOU make it, but with FIU i have tried to make it all i can. I go out, i go clubbing , and to the greek parties, but the area is just "not me". As far as fraternity and sorority life, they run everything here. The black frats and sororities don't advertise anything so you never know what's going on with them and their extremely unapproachable. By Friday around 6 p.m. the campus is a ghost town. There is nobody here and everyone runs home with their high school friends. They treat FIU like its a 13th grade because everyone here wants to transfer to UM so they don't give two shits about FIU. Let me not get started on the sports. They are getting better. Isaiah Thomas had a lot of work to do though but they are improving. Football, well, their alright. The dazzlers( dancers ) are wack! LOL. 1 black girl & like 30 hispanics. & the cheerleaders are actually pretty good! The diversity is bull. Its allllll hispanic people ( no offense ) but that does not make a school diverse at all. Don't let the "internaitonal" fool you. I spent 1 semester here and i cannot wait till spring when i am transferring to Spelman in Atlanta,GA along with 3 other people from here. I know i will have an amazing experience there, but FIU has completely scarred me for life and i REFUSE to waste another semester here. RUN, RUN LIKE HELL from this place. Most of the teachers struggle with speaking english so if you only speak english to bad for you. None of the offices work together. Every office has their own dates and expect different things even when these offices are in the same department. Advisors dont advise you correctly and when you do take classes in the order they gie you then turn around and tell you, you should have one it differently. The secretarys have chips on their shoulders because they only answer the phones and never went to university. You have to make apointments throught them but they want to know why and everything else befor they dont make the apointment. They send you to te wrong places and when you get annoyed play dumb. Some classes you dont get grades back tills its to late to do anything about it. The school is broke but can continue to charge students higher tuition like money grows on trees, haha no parking is more than the problem they are now puttin a building in one of the very few parking lots. So future freshmen when you apply you wont be able to drive your first year pretty soon. Oh how about we have a new valet parking 5 dollars an hour and 20 dollar a day and tey close at 6 so if your class is over after that time ????you have to send emails constantly in order to get a reply and when you do it probably has nothing to do with what you asked. Never never live on campus you pay way too much for way to little. Last but not least you can do alll the classes in your major apply for graduation and get declined because the school adds some random class in order to hold your diploma hostage for more money.
