I am currently enrolled in a degree program through a local university. Unfortunately, I feel that my Kaplan experience was more detrimental to my success than helpful. The tuition is ridiculous for the certification earned, and the pay for the position is barely above minimum wage; so the costs of loan repayment is not even possible on the new "earned" income. If I were to speak with new high school grads, I would strongly suggest looking into the traditional college and avoid programs such as the learn fast, earn fast approach. The money spent on the useless "certifications" would more greatly benefit a person if applied to a more student oriented school: Kaplan, in retrospect, was just a "get 'em in and get 'em financed" type of experience. College is definitely beneficial, you just need to be sure to find one that is tailored to fit your long term needs.

financial aid here is a joke. get used to 20 to 30 minute hold times to speak to one of their "specialists". Everyone sounds like they live in the ghetto and speak fluent ebonics. Once you ask them a simple question, prepare for another 5 minute hold while they ask their neighbor/supervisor/pet chihuahua for an unintelligable or false answer. I have huge cell phone bills from calling these losers on a daily basis to get my aid straightened out.
