Santa Fe is basically the last resort for all the local students who weren't accepted to UF or other "real" state universities OR dual-enrolled students trying to pad their high-school resumes for when they apply to the state schools.
Positives:
1) Faculty and staff are, for the most part, very knowledgeable in their respective departments. All professors I have had are very willing to do anything necessary to help you succeed. Most give you their home phone numbers to call if there's ever a problem.
2) All of the various campuses are well-maintained and aesthetically pleasing.
3) While I do not know this personally, I have heard that the nursing program is excellent, especially if you want to get clinical experience early in your education.
Negatives:
1) Althought the faculty are usually wonderful, their classes are crap. There are not many professors that are actually good teachers. I have not been challenged academically at SFC, and find myself doing busywork that will never be applicable in the real world. It feels like high school all over again!
2) The student body is, as a whole, not friendly. It's cliques resemble a drama-filled high school. 3) Dual-enrolled students get to choose their classes and schedules a full month before the regular college students. When regular registration rolls around, many of the top choice courses are already full and unavailable to the rest of the studnet body. Advice: you can find a better school. | Faculty Accessibility: A+, Innovation: D+

| Average | Santa Fe is very beautiful to look at. Gorgeous landscapes and very nice layout of the campus. The students all seem very nice, but a bit afraid to communicate. Though, I'm definitely not one to talk. I stand a bit on the shy side. All the teachers are very approachable, specifically my college algebra professor Mr. Nieves. Take his class. Oh, and if you're a zoology major you will love this college. Very exceptional zoology program. Just be prepared for hard work. | University Resource Use: A+, Surrounding City: B- | | | |

Don't even think about going here if you are an out-of-state student! They have obviously not had much experience with them and can't hand the out-of-state financial problems. I went to go to sign up for classes one day and it said that I couldn't. I called and they said I owed $1600 and that first person didn't know why. I spent a month being told to call this person and then this person and then this person to find out what had happened...and of course they never answer their phones! Then they call you the next day and then they say they'll call you back tomorrow. When they do call back, they tell you to call back. My dad finally called the dean of students and threatened to sue them and then they started getting serious. It took 4 members of the administration on a conference call with me and my dad to tell us what had happened. Plus, the course work is incredibly EASY. When I first came in, I went to talk to an advisor and he told me that my work at SFCC would be easy because the expectations for graduating in Florida are much lower than in California. I was completely bored in my normal classes like math and english. They were teaching basic principles and reading material I had read in my freshman year in high school. I was talking to one of my professors at SFCC and she asked me what books I had read in my senior year AP english class. She said that those books were out of Santa Fe's range all together. I was appauled! Think very hard about staying in your own state for college and then transfering to UF. Santa Fe is not the place for out-of-state students! | Campus Aesthetics: A, Innovation: F

Sitting through a class at SFCC is like crawling through an open sewer. People never interact with each other in any way...with the possible exception of reforming the worst elements of middle school social cliques. Students are closed minded and judgemental; mostly rich kids who partied too much in high school and couldn't make the cut for a real state school. Everyone is bitter and broken and the professors exacerbate this situation by hammering students with their political and social dogma. The people I went to high school with call this school "13th grade," which is probably the most appropriate title. Nothing about it will challenge or intrigue you. Its high school redux with slightly more access to drugs and alcohol off campus. Also, forget about getting your "2 year" degree in two years. Its literally impossible because UF and FSU change their admission criteria for transfers every year. This is a clever tactic because it keeps out most of the community college students who they think are going to choke out better performing freshman admits. Its not uncommon for students here to spend 5 years on their AA because of the constantly shifting requirements for transfer. One last piece of advice here: Do not offer opinions, thoughts, or perspectives in class. People aren't there to have debates and learn. They just want to make the grade and go back to their minimum wage job. Approach class as just another job and you MIGHT avoid becoming a dropout...which would put you in the minority because this school has over a 50% attrition (dropout) rate. Good luck. | University Resource Use: A+, Innovation: D
