Super Brilliant
The University of Miami is not what I expected. When I decided to come here, I believed that it would be filled with snotty rich brats along with some genuine people that would take a little while to find. After a semester of attending, I have yet to find more than four or five genuine people. Whereas in high school, one in two people would be genuine and have a good personality. I thought that what I had heard about the school couldn't possibly be true, and it wasn't because it's worse than I had heard.

Cons
-----------------------
-Professors are either hit or miss. A lot of good ones mixed with a lot of horrible ones.
-The people are more fake than instant bronzer. When I decided to come here I was convinced that my experience would be different than all the negative ones I read of. Yours will not be different, so do not take my review lightly like I did to other reviews.
-A social scene consisting of really shitty house parties, really stuck up frats, hundred dollar nights at South Beach and OK nights at Coconut Grove.
-Football games are two hours round trip and you need to get there early. They take up most of a Saturday and the stadium is never even near full. Always 10,000+ empty seats.

Anyway, I'm only one semester in and the aesthetics of the campus have already warn off and I can see right through the university. It's not the college experience you see in movies, nor is it the college experience most would want to have. It is superficial and should be avoided.

After only one semester, my heart is set on transferring. That says a lot, because usually I am the kind of person to set to something and fight through it no matter how much I hate it.

The University of Miami is not at all what I expected. The people are extremely superficial and fake to the point where I feel out of place. I am transferring next semester even though I feel like I didn't give it a full chance. The classes are a joke, it's still the Suntan U. The academics are horrible! The football stadium is 45 minutes away which sucks. The greek life is terrible and the parties suck. This school is a wannabe city school but its a $40 cab ride to South Beach. Miami is a great place to vacation but DO NOT GO TO SCHOOL HERE!

The overall vibe at UM is "Work hard, Play hard."
I had no problem with the academic side of UM...actually thought most professors were pretty decent and the work challenging. The school tries hard to involve students by planning lots of events on campus. It's the social side of UM that is beyond ridiculous. The student body is diverse, that's true, but it's not enough to overcome the fact that this place attracts some of the most obnoxious people on the planet. The majority of students here only care about image and partying and themselves. I think the proximity to South Beach is the cause for this. Most students come here to party hardy for 4 years. It is really hard to find substantial and loyal friends, most relationships are superficial and they would leave you stranded without a second thought. If you are nice, down to earth or a person of substance, you should look elsewhere. Don't waste your time and money here.
