The painting department is great, faculty is friendly and helpful. The work is difficult but you really can see yourself grow after every quarter. Many of the schools programs have won awards and produce promising artists and designers. It is true that the city of Savannah is not the safest place in the world. It has gotten better since I first moved here. Yes I have had my apartment broken into and yes it was very scary. I have not witnessed nor known anybody that was the victim of a violent crime. It seems to me that the violence occurs between people that know each other. The only reason I have stayed in Savannah is because of the school. I have two off campus jobs and I have not found any locals that have problems with the school or the students. It is quite easy to get a job with some experience. Many locals are grateful for what SCAD has done for the city in cleaning up the downtown area and revitalizing many of the historic buildings. SCAD is a great school, the only negative I have is the city's crime. It is high but I do not feel unsafe on a regular basis. I don't walk by myself at night and I keep my house and car locked. This may sound insane but coming from a white suburban neighborhood I found it to be quite educational living in an area where there are many people who are black and poor. It has opened my eyes to what other people have to live through.

Ok, so, almost done with my first quarter as a freshman. So far, so good.
The stuff that you've heard so far from other students about the safety and what not is true. Not to safe. So be careful.

As for education, can't really say to much so far. But foundations are going okay. It's bascially what professors you get so second quarter should be better.

As for the bashing of the students...for the love of god. I'm sorry, but welcome to life. If you're looking for a school where everyone is perfect and you love every single person, please let me know where this college exists. Every school you will hear "the students are snobby, arogant, etc". But the fact is that every one of these people has a group of friends. Just find a group of friends and you'll be okay. I haven't seen a single lonely person at this school. There is a sense of community in the fact that we're all here for art.Look around at the other opinions for other art schools, you'll find it's all the same on this website atleast. "Education is great, students are jerks". Welcome to art school.
