My expectations of SCAD have not been upheald.
It IS NOT limited by the collection of quality professors and resources, which I must say are above and beyond most state schools. The range of student quality is far to great, and it is limiting the better students to a 'mediocre' quality (at best).A MONSTROUS problem SCAD is currently facing, is how poor safety is controled within the city of Savannah (though on SCAD property, the Security team does quite well).

Question
SCAD is a wonderful school! I went toSuper BrilliantArchitecture
SCAD is a wonderful school! I went to RISD (Rhode Island School of Design) for two years and I hated it! RISD is way more conservative than SCAD. My best friend went to Ringling in Sarasota and transferred to SCAD and she said that SCAD is 200x as better that Ringling. My major (Arch) is so mind-blowing! The professor are great! Every year there is a new building added on to the campus, a new student activity, and so many festivals. Okay Savannah is not the most crime infested city in the world, use common sense! Don't walk don't dark alleys at night, etc. Savannah is truly an underground city. Everything to do that is interesting for young people happen at night and you have to look around for them.

I think most art schools are jealous of SCAD because it is the only art school in the nation that uses a quarter system (to pack in more intensive courses), doesn’t have NASAD accreditation (because you have to be on a semester system to get it), only has classes four days a week (because professors give you so much work to do!), has great facilities (compared to RISD, where most building are on the break of collapse), and is overall a great school.

Now, SCAD is way different than it was two or three years ago: new professors (highly qualified, most have staggering resumes) are all over the place, bigger better facilities, and the administration is making a conscientious effort to improve SCAD in all areas to ensure quality education. So to all those jack asses you missed out on one of the best art schools in the nation, screw you SCAD is amazing! But everyone is entitled to their own options.

Question
Prepare yourself for another year of High SchoolAverageArchitecture
Prepare yourself for another year of High School socially and a huge work load academically. In High School I had a few good friends and I drifted in and among the MANY clicks my school had. I was really looking forward to getting away from all of that and experiencing the real world and i figured art school was the perfect place to do that. WRONG! Everyone here stays in their "comfort groups" and clicks and doesn't even talk to anyone else who might not fit in. I have a couple of friends here but it really isn't what I expected socially. I deliberately chose not to go to a big party school because that is not what I wanted but here most of the kids are like that. Don't go here if you want to open your mind socially, it won't happen. A lot of the kids are assholes and the ones that aren't are just too whacko to function socially with ANYONE. They sit in their rooms and mope all day.

The academics are good, you will get a great degree and do a LOT of work to get it. They tell you to only take three classes a semester because of the ammount of work you get and they are right. Just get ready for a full load. The good news is that SCAD is pretty well recognised and after one year you can go to just about any other school. I will hopefully be transferring after this year to go somewhere more worth my money and where I can feel like I am in a friendly college atmosphere. Another thing about SCAD is the $money$ involved. This place LOVES money and they will go out of their way to get it out of you. I wouldn't recommend SCAD.
