I.S.U. is a university that you get what you put into it. I found it to be an enlightening school that has helped me to be very successful in the field of education. As an English major, I found the program to be academically challenging and beneficial to my future. In fact, having a degree in English Education from I.S.U. has opened many doors given its great reputation. It is for that reason that I highly recommend I.S.U. to students interested in a degree in education.

Way too many women. Was in one of four dorms all women hooked together very different experience than in a heavier drinking coed dorm. Watterson towers is like suite living with floor to ceiling windows and elevators don't stop on every floor. A few are way way out from campus-good for jocks. Psychology and poli sci classes were great. Student union and library were nice. Some large lecture classes in entry level. Town is part of twin cities out in the middle of corn fields--if you have a car and go to next town over you can definitely find trendy restaurants, mall shopping, etc. I think predominantly white but check it may have changed. The best restaurant near to campus is hands down Avanti's restaurant--good place to take parents on a campus visit.Would be a pretty dead place to go to summer school. Illinois Wesleyan is probably viewed as a hotter school and is nearby. As a state school has good prices. Campus not too large. Much much smaller than Univ of Ill, bigger than Bradley, etc. Sort of halfway between St. Louis and Chicago--amtrak station. I think international students would find it pretty lame and they would be better off in Chicago or St. Louis. Take a good winter coat, car and bicycle.

ISU was a place where if you looked for them, there were plenty of opportunities to become involved and expand your education beyond the classroom. The faculty in the Geography Department were outstanding and activley worked with students.
