If you are wanting to be challange, ISU is NOT the place for you. I am a freshman and am planning my transferring already. I applied knowing it was affordable (for IL) for a white, middle-class person not expecting to recieve much aid. I guess I did not look too much for out-of-state schools with similar price tags. If you are uncertain about what you want to study, taking a variety of classes is impossible. Finding yourself here will not happen. This is a school for people who know what they want (business, education, music.) Also, FRESHMAN- do not live in Watterson if you want to meet people. It is comparable to living in an isolated dungeon. Oh, and ISU has this deal with addmitting too many students so there are students in supplemental housing and they changed triples into quads. Everything in this school seems outdated, though they are trying to fix things up slowly, and they really have nothing on campus for the students.

If you are looking to just slack through college or attending a semi-decent party school, ISU is for you. But if you want to actually feel like more than just a number at the school, you want to be active and challeged, I would say DECLINE YOUR ADMITTANCE and go elsewhere. Best of luck.

THE TOWN OF NORMAL IS DEAD AND DRY!..there's absolute nothing interesting to do in it. The bus route service and numerous liquor stores are the most (if not only) beneficial asset to this town. I would rank ISU's surroundings at a 6 on a scale of 10. Walk into any local store or most apartments and be prepared to be greeted with the peculiar stinch associated with old buildings. Most dorms and classrooms are no different. The whole entire school and its surroundings needs a seroius facelift. Without friends, living in Normal could be a challenge. Just like the town, school spirit is dead in terms of pride and sports.Don't expect victory at a game. Just be there to look cute and to take pictures with friends. No atheltic department excels at anything; the football team is the biggest joke. Students are usually from random suburbs. ISU kids like drink like crazy! Ambulances pick up drunk students all the time like nothing! Education is quite good. ISU's nursing college is one of th best in the state. Only a hand full of teachers know how to truly teach; most just sound well educated and but can't teach. ISU also has a habit of hiring teachers that can't speak english to the understanding of students. I found going to class unnecessary in 2 instances. My friends also complained about that also...Having a proffesor that can't communicate well is serious diservice to students. The food courts are horrible and greasy. Go to watterson to clog arteries! Eating at an ISU foodcourt for 4 years straight may cause damage healthwise. The bakery is FIERCE....you wouldnt be dissapointed with the bakery! The school is racially diverse. Despite the fact caucasians are the majority, minorities dont seem underrepresented. Overall, ISU is not a bad school.....its just OK. It feels like an ungraded community college rather than a University. If having school pride, experiencing genuine college tradition and undeniable higher learning is a priority then ISU might not be the choice. its yearly cost does not match the experience either.

As Chinese student I find ISU disappointing. No one help me with questions. Professors not helpful and unkind. Normal not friendly place. I do not encourage you to go here.
