ISU is an okay school. The quad is convenient (all class buildings are right there) and pretty. Most teachers so far are approachable, mostly through email. There are a ton of gen eds you have to get through which I hate (as a P.R. major I reeeeally dont need to take 3 sciences). Social life is what you make of it - most weekends are wandering around until you find a house/frat party to stay at. I was sick of the on campus food halfway into first semester. There are a few decent places to eat off campus, but otherwise the town of Normal sucks. Seriously. There's nothing. Theres a mall and some decent shopping on Veterans Parkway but the busses don't run at all on Saturday so you're pretty much stranded. I went home a lot more than I thought I would on weekends bc there's not too much to do here. If you're coming to ISU, trust me: bring your car.

Overall, I think my time as ISU would have been better if I were more motivated. I feel that ISU is a school that you get out of it what you put into it. That being said, I think that the faculty could have done a better job of "involving" us in a real world sense. After mainly book work with a few case studies, reality was a tough thing to swallow. The promise of my major wasn't realized until I finally was able to break in around 5 years after graduation. I feel that my undergrad from ISU was a part of preparing me for the business world, but I don't think I saw the picture more clearly until I got a graduate degree from a school that encourage more peer interaction. Overall, I feel ISU a self-service opportunity that I wish I would have used better.

My Masters went great and I got 3 publications from 1.5 years of research. Won several awards and got an amazing post doc, unfortunately one of my professors stole my research when the department asked me to remove her from my committee. I saw a lot of infighting in the psychology and biology departments. Those two departments allow professors to abuse students and only do what is in the department's interests. I saw half of the graduate students in my area leave disgruntled, luckily to succeed in PhD programs elsewhere.I would strongly advise anyone against the new neuroscience program, it looks good on paper but is not nearly as organized as they would like and students are the ones who take the fall.
